I just ran a side by side test of LimeWire and Bearshare to see what would happen. I opened them both at the same time, and let them run to get connections. Following are the searches, and the results returned, as well as RAM and CPU used by both. I have screenshots of the tests, if anyone cared
Client:_______LimeWire___BearShare
Searches:
**** *****________197________79 <- number of results
***** ****_______50_________1
*********____10_________0
*********___12_________1
***** *****_____138________26
RAM used:____31668_______17348
CPU used:________0_________13
Notes, LimeWires CPU usage was 0 almost all the time, but went up to 2 a couple times. Bearshare ranged from 4 to 17!, averaging about 11-13. Less ram, but goodbye CPU (this was on a 1400 mhz machine)
Also, about half of the ****** results in Bearshare were those damned ******** spam songs some of you might have seen, which I have filtered out in LimeWire (bearshare can only filter by extension), so there were really only 14 or 15 real hits for "****** ****" (was looking for **** ****)
Verdict? duh. Bearshare was even trying to maintain 2 more connections than LimeWire (12, instead of 10)
Anyone else done any of these? (I've done more than this one, and the results are always similar)
