Spyware?

Why are you guys installing spyware to go along with LimeWire? I've installed it and still get the lovely semi-pornographic pop-ups and the one that looks like an IM window. Is there any way for me to get rid of these? I've already used Ad-Aware and gotten rid of about 14 other files associated with LimeWire spyware, but for some reason these files elude the uninstaller and Ad-Aware.

Thanks.

Don't be so cheap..

Spend the $9 and buy the pro version that's sans spyware.

Errm...I was trying Limewire out, I un-installed the program long before I knew there was Spyware installed with it. It was an ok program, but not something I used often, so I deleted it to save space. Anyway, even if I did buy the Pro version, the spyware would still be there. Hell with Limewire if they expect me to give THEM money for installing spyware on my computer.

The pro version doesn't contain spyware. Don't spread rumours.

I think he means the existing spyware from the free version wouldn't be removed. Either way, Ad-Aware should pick it all up, he must be using an old version.

Go ahead. Pay $9 every month to upgrade the software so you don't have to install spyware on your computer. Put up with idiots who set their connect speed to "T3" when they have a crappy modem connect.

The idea seemed a good one, LimeWire's implementation is a Worthless Piece of S#&$.

Its $9 every six months. Not much more than a dollar a month. And as for the T3/Modem thing, I must agree. Gnucleus's implementation seems so much better (the k/sec column), though KaZaA's is the real joke.

Maybe, just maybe, one of these days the developers will wake up and see that people are getting sick and tired of all the bundled spyware and are moving on to something that is not intrusive. The main reason and purpose of the cleanclient versions is to get rid of all the spyware and malicious code, and as long as the code is open source, and the developers continue to bundle the offensive software, these clean versions will only become more popular, and are free!

I can see the response now..."Then buy the spyware free version, if you don't want the spyware". My response to that would be, be realistic, why would anyone pay from something that they can find an alternative for, thats free! Thats human nature.

These spyware companies are in the "spotlight" now, their underhanded tactics are becoming known to the masses, and if legitimate software providers continue to associate themselves with them, then they too will be in the "unfavorable" spotlight.
