How do I completely uninstall free LimeWire? Ok, I really should know how to do this after being here for so long, but... can someone give me a complete, step by step walkthrough on how to remove EVERYTHING limewire HAS EVER installed on a windows machine (since version 1.8 I think)? This is quite a task, but I want to make sure my machine is totally clean. I have no problem with step 1 being: "Run Adaware, and delete these files...," rather than deleting every file by hand. However if you could mention which files NOT to uninstall using Adaware, so I don't mess up my system by accident, that would be great! Here is the list of all the software that has ever been bundled with LW: Previous: Cydoor eZula Gator Web3000 BonziBuddy clicktillyouwin Current: Cydoor TopMoxie From: -- http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...5&pagenumber=3 Thanks a ton, |

Have to Laugh! All the spyware that you mentioned, are in the top line up of the "Rogues Gallery". I find it very hard to believe that AFisk would intentionally install any of it on a computer that he owns. Even though he and the other developers obviously promote and support it. As far as getting your system clean again, I doubt if anyone (other than the companies that made the bundled software) knows exactly what files to keep or delete. (There are so many, not to mention the Registry entries) Agreed, AdAware does a fine job at cleaning up the mess. As a suggestion, let AdAware make a backup of anything you let it delete, that way, if something does go wrong you can put it back. Also, several of those companies offer uninstallers for their "advertising" software. You could check their sites, though based on their track records, I don't know if i would fully trust their "Uninstallers".... |

Added......... Just for future reference. If you run "System File Checker" (Windows users) before you install a software package and also backup your registry, then run it again after you install the software, you will have a record of what was installed or changed.....:-) It take a few extra minutes, but sure does save some hair pulling later on. |

If I'm not mistaken, ad-aware (current version, latest ref files) should pick all of that up, except clicktilluwin, which an updated virus scanner should pick up. If u use anything else that needs Cydoor, u will need this file after ad-aware (cd_clint.zip) None of this should screw anything up, except I've heard that web3000 messes with the winsock32.dll file (internet access core file), so u may want to download a copy from microsoft before ad-aware tries to fix it. Of course, be sure to run all of limewire's uninstallers before anything (limeshop too) Cheers |

Good Point Good Point Dividend, some of those "critters" have a tendency to screw around with system files, so its a good idea to have a backup of them available first, just in case. It only takes about 5 minutes to make a frequent CDR backup of your Windows folder (that is if you have a CDR available). |
