![]() Just read in the TruStarwarrior's FAQ that Limewire REQUIRES spyware to run properly...I intended to ask why I get so few returns to my searches, but heck, I'm just gonna hav' ta pull the plug on this here program. I hate someone (or some code) reading over my shoulder. |

![]() The FAQ is a little dated. LimeWire installs the LimeShop and the Cydoor advertising system. Neither are "spyware" and the LimeShop has an uninstaller in the Windows Add/Remove programs box if you don't like it. Cydoor consists of one file in the system or system32 directory called cd_clint.dll. This is the file that displays the ads, and is only loaded when LimeWire, KaZaA, Grokster, etc is open (there are more programs, but those are most common). That's all it does - display ads. You can delete this file, and LimeWire will still function, but KaZaA, etc will not. To remove any program that "looks over your shoulder" download Ad-Aware. Be warned that some ad-supported programs will cease to function after this. The few search hits are a problem being caused by the flood of Morpheus ultrapeers, and has nothing to do with adware. |
