i've noticed in the gnutella forums that limewire has the most threads posted on it by far. i take the reason for this to be the unreliability of the program. i've "tried", unsuccessfully, to use limewire since os 9.1. i can honestly say i've downloaded approx. 6 files off of limewire in the last year and a half. it always ends up with bunk search returns, or the famous "infinite requery". sometimes i disconnect and reconnect and will get more search returns, but alas, there is always the naughty "infinite requery" to dash any hopes of trading any files. i don't want any help with this problem, because there really is no helping this situation. limewire is crap. sure it may work wonders for a small percentage of you, but for the rest of us, we're tired of posting useless threads just to get the same reply to the same question:
"i can't d/l a thing!" "uh, are you behind a firewall?" "no" "........" "thanks" so what are mac users supposed to do? i have yet to run into anything semi-comparable with Morpeus, or Kazaa. does anyone use these progs on virtual PC with any luck? all we have to choose from is limewire, mactella, and carracho. i need music, files, information, community!!! |

Hi folks,
Actually, I suspect the reason for more posts on Limewire is because the ability to connect to a public forum is part of the Limewire interface. Just click a menu item and you are there. You need not have a PHD in advanced rocket design to get some extra help. From the Windows point of view: I have win98 in an older 500mhz machine (PC) and all of the LW versions that I have run work as expected. I have also tried the other gnutella clients. None of them amazed me as 'super wiz bang stuff' so I still use LW. I have no offical connections with the Limewire developers. I sometimes write software and do appreciate the little extras that Limewire provides. From the reality point of view: If you walk into a major software sales retailer about 98% of the software is written for (IBM) PCs. In some it is 100%. I wont go into why Apple shot themselves in the foot on third party software development. Just be happy that software developers still do a lot of extra effort to support a very small portion of the market. Finally, in a democracy, we all get to vote. I say Limewire is pretty darned good.
