I doubt that. I don't see that boost in popularity either. I mean an article at /. - come on, /. posts an article about gnutella every three months and they are quickly forgotten.

As you mentioned above, the heart of Gnutella2 ("G2" is a trademark owned by RealNetworks), seems to be GUESS. But as Shareaza Mike said it's slightly different from GUESS. Since LimeWire already got a working GUESS implementation, I believe the LW team will look at the specs carefully, watch it being flamed by Gtk-Gnutella Raphael and BearShare Vinnie on the GDF, point out that it's not all bad but simply not good enough and move it to the paper bin.

That's just my assumption of course, but a think it's a realistic one.

I found that the only real discussion is taking place at the shareaza website forums and strangely hardly a peep from the limewire community. Why?
The main discussion was on the GDF and there was some discussion on BearShare.net. LimeWire kept rather quiet about Gnutella2 only mentioning that they will look at the specs and that they don't like the way it went.

www.gnutella2.com says all about Gnutella2 we know at the moment. Shareaza Mike won't tell any more and the rest of the Shareaza crowd probably doesn't know any more. So far it's even not clear if even the few words at www.gnutella2.com are reliable and leave a lot of room for speculation. Gnutella2 might be a dramatic improvement - and it might as well be a few cosmetic changes and a lot of hot air.

I'm sure LimeWire will make a very educated, intelligent decision as to which network "enhancement" architecture they will adopt. I'm very anxious to see what LimeWire chooses and when it is released!
