Well, I am plagued by these pop-ups also, however I HAVE figured out an IP correlation for them.

When one of my connections drops and Limewire goes looking for a replacement, these popup boxes are showing up with the same IP addresses as some of the ultrapeers that Limewire is trying to connect to. If you stare at your connections tab you can catch it, although it's quick.

What I thought might be happening was that the IP I was trying to connect to was behind a solid firewall, requiring a login to connect or something similar, and those users hadn't disabled ultrapeer connections?

Either way, it still doesn't help me keep from crashing or rebuffing those requests automagically. :/

And yes, in UNIX files beginning with "." are hidden system files.

I check around and found a file ".com.zerog.registry.xml" and a folder ".limewire" both in preferences. I figured the "period" was just to keep them at the top of the list.

I've never seen a pop-up window, though. Just thought I'd mention it since I also use Mac, OS 9.1.

Julie,

I checked and I too have that file and folder ...http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106589. This is all I could find regarding files beginning with periods. What version LW are you using?

Julie to you, or any other Mac users out there, have these invisible files on your HD or know what they are? I searched my HD for them using Norton Fast Find because a normal search wouldn't bring them up due to their being invisible. There are six invisible ones right on the HD itself they are mdt-stamp (space before the mdt) !mdt-stamp, *mdt-stamp, -mdt-stamp, _mdt-stamp, .mdt-stamp and six more in the folder I download to...they are mtd-flag (space before the mtd), !mtd-flag, *mtd-flag, _mtd-flag, -mtd-flag, .mtd-flag.

Thanks
Nas

Default Pop-up Box Answer

Just found this:

http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/faqs

Q: Sometimes when I'm searching, I get a little annoying message asking for a name and password? Is this normal?

A: Either ignore those messages or upgrade to version 2.8.6. One of the other Gnutella client vendors is putting out a signal that older versions of LimeWire interpret as a login request.
