browsing shared files Is limewire by default allowing anyone to browse my shared files? If so, how do I disable it? |
You can't disable it. |
Well, then we got a feuture request Im sure sutch an option whould be liked, because anti-piracy groups that like to sniff around, use this option for "evil". Not so long ago, many edonkey and kazaa users in Denmark got a screenshot of theyr shared files along with a bill in theyr mail, whouldnt want that to happen to gnutella users :) |
I don't see what this would achieve. Browsing hosts is not necessary to find out what you are sharing, your LimeWire is already "broadcasting" all your files to the whole network. If anybody want's to find out who is infringing copyrights, he just connects to the network with a couple of ultrapeers and waits for people to send their QueryHits. |

Don't be mistaken, when running a couple of ultrapeers you don't have to browse users individually. You can just leave the ultrapeer running and collect data on thousands of users within just a couple of hours and that's what companies like Overpeer and Mediaforce are doing all the time. Not a single company searching the network for copyright infringements uses the browse host functionality. |
*feels stupid* well I guess there's no point of sutch option then :) thanks for the replys |
