Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. 15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. upgrades/crashes helooooo out there... ive been using the lovely limewire for about a year and a half now sharing over 2000 files of my own and aquired-thanks to everyone who shares!! Every time I crash limewire (usually when im running too many programs-even with a gig of ram) or when I upgrade (using.8 now) I loose my 'downloads' list. Since I mostly search for the 'not popular' stuff, my list is long and takes weeks to find files. It is so long that I forgot all the stuff that was there. I have tried to cut n paste the list to word but no go. Any suggestions short of making a side entry for every search? Also, the new restriction on connections seems to have slowed me down about 33% (dsl/work, cable/home bandwith). I also get far less hits whan tapped as an ultrapeer. No complaints-just looking for wisdom... Last edited by fscott; May 27th, 2003 at 10:49 AM. |

Hi Unfortunately, when you crash, you will always lose your downloads list and there is no provision for making a separate list within Limewire (except, of course, that the Incomplete file will hold all the partials and could represent an aide-memoire for you). I run a separate want list that I chip away at over the months. As I collector of less popular music myself, I enjoy the hunt. But a word of clarification. The point of keeping a long list of incomplete downloads has been removed. Earlier versions of Limewire used to send out requests for reconnection. This no longer operates. so the only point of keeping a "full" download tray of incompletes is as a want list. My own strategy is to kill a download the moment it becomes obvious that it is not going to be bullied to a conclusion. The incomplete file remains available for the next time I repeat the search and attempt reconnection so I lose nothing by deleting it. And, although it is good to be sociable, I would disable the ultrapeer option and concentrate on simple upload and download as a leaf. You are obviously the kind of person we want on Gnutella but experience shows that operating as an ultrapeer eats bandwidth and, unless you are running an unlimited broadband account like mine, it may be too expensive for you to leave Limewire up passively to operate as an ultrapeer while you do other things. Thanks for taking the trouble to ask the right questions. If anything is not clear from this, come back. |

David, thanks so much for a clear and concise reply. I had suspected that the downloads list was not re-searching and went throught he list yesterday hitting the 'resume' button. It worked in a few cases, but not often. Iprefered the older version of the software because I could 'open -up' 6 nodes and rely on the program to keep searching. Anyway, I realized a long time ago that a good download session is a full time effort-researching every 5 minutes or so, changing your connections by deleting the oldest ones broadening (hopefully) your search to new leaf users, deleating morpheus conections, etc. Even with the old version I repeted my searches every 5 to 10 minutes as replies drop to zero by then. As you posted someone in another thread- this is a great way to (as hannibal would say:) "try new things". There is no doubt that my tastes have been sharpened and refined because of Limewire. I would never have 'sampled' all of the various music that I have this year if I was forced to buy an entire album for 'perhaps' one good cut. As anyone who likes photography knows, you take a whole 'roll' to get one or two good pictures. I am saying some of these things here as I remember how much I learned by reading the 'chatter' in the postings. Perhaps we will give some good insight to someone just starting out. In this vein, I want to plug what Jobs has done at Apple with the new iTunes store. THIS is the way music should have been sold all along; cut by cut. Unfortunatly, they are not yet licenced for some of the things I'm having trouble with (like Paul Hardcastle-'FirstLight' and Emma Kirkby) but it's a start. p.s. Was in Thailand last year (Bancock/ChangMai)and was "Amazed". Slip over to RAFFELS for me and down a "sling" in my name (till I can get there myself!). Resume button Hmmm. I'm relatively new to this Limewire lark and, in the short months of experimentation, I've never had resume work. Browsing the threads, I read that it had been "disconnected". As far as I can determine, even the hidden "Force resume" doesn't work (which is strange because if you take the trouble to hide it like buried treasure, you might expect the pirates to leave something valuable in there). So you must either be using a very old version of Limewire or something strange is happening. However, if it works for you. . . And, as a final thought, we actually avoid the tourist places and live in the Heartlands, subsisting on roti prata and kopi oh. But I'll buy you a beer if you make it out here. |
