Question Question of ettiquette

This may sound like a strange question, but I'm wondering how many simultaneous uploads people have their program set to.

I'm using a DSL connection with an allowance of 10 uploads (3 per person). By far, more files are uploaded from my system than I download from other people (by about 8 or 10 times) -- even when I'm actively seeking out desired downloads.

Admittedly, the increasingly irritating users who try and download every file I'm sharing at once don't really help this situation.

I'm just wondering if I've set my uploads to go 'above and beyond the call of duty', or if this disparity happens to most users.

Also, I'm assuming that it's normal to leave the 'upload bandwidth' slider at an even 50%. Is this correct, or do most people crank that down in a fit of selfishness?

Thanks for any input.

I have a T-1 connection at work but I still only set my uploads to 1 per person and 5 uploads overall. I have my bandwidth slider set to 30% (which at T-1 speed still isn't bad). The problem with setting your uploads per person higher than 1 is that there seems to be an awful lot of idiots who will download the same file over and over again, or 2 or 3 copies of the same file at the same time. I'm not greedy, I share all of my files, but I'll be damned if I'm letting some moron waste my bandwidth because he can't figure out that he's already downloaded that song successfully, so he keeps trying to get it again and again. And believe me, this is not an isolated incident - it happens every day. I mean c'mon people, LimeWire might be a little harder to use than Napster was, but it's not brain surgery. I also block browser users and "freeloaders" (people who aren't sharing any files themselves) from downloading from me. Let these greedy *******s get their mp3s somewhere else. If everyone decided to be like that there would be no more LimeWire. I think everyone needs to remember that.

I have DSL as well and a Firewall. I usually leave Limewire up and running most of the day.

When I am actively searching and downloading I will cut off all uploading from my machine (Setting Bandwidth to 0% and Uploads to 0) until I have completed my session.

When I am done then I set things back to normal. My normal settings are:

Bandwidth : 25%
Simultaneous Uploads: 4
Uploads per Person: 1

I also block freeloaders and classify a freeloader as anyone sharing less than 25 files.

I hope this helps!

unfortunately... I'm on ADSL and I have to keep mine around 25% because it bases my speed on my total connection... I've been capped at 15kb/s by my ISP so if I leave it at anything higher than 30% I have no bandwidth for uploads.... I leave 3 slots open for download and 1 per person... I figure that as long as the person is getting about 4-5kb/s that's enough speed... I figure most people should set their options so that it limits the number of connections for better speed... I would rather not connect to someone than have it d/l at 0.5kb/s...

Some people have said they cut off 56K slow users, if I am sitting there like a dumbass I will open more uploads slots when 56K users tie some of them up.
When I get a life (non dumbass mode) I just leave 5 spots open.
