I don't think it's the McAfee firewall doing this as my grandmother has the same firewall, the same downloading program (Kazaa), and the same operating system (XP), but not the same problems. Compare the settings. AFAIK XP has a build in firewall check if this firewall is on. Try to disable your McAfee firewall. Did you try an other clients than kazaa or Limewire? Perhaps your provider is blocking sharing applications - did you read the agreement?
