Default Developer's discussion board?

Hi to all, my name is Dan Meyers. I'd like to do some editing to the Limewire source, but have had problems getting access to it. Specifically i have to be registered on the limewire site to download the source but the registration process seems to be broken. So I instead downloaded FreeWire, as the source was at a simple download link available on their site (www.freewirep2p.com) and it is supposedly *very* similar to Limewire.

I am, however, having some problems getting their source to run. It compiles fine, but on running it throws out hundreds of errors. I understand that this is probably not the correct forum to be posting on, but I was wondering if anyone here could point me in the direction fo a freewire or limewire developer's forum, as the freewire website doesn't seem to have links to any such thing. I in fact found this site from their links page.

Dan

Hi

A registration is not required. The source is available via a guest CVS account...

The link rkapsi posted is for the core. You'll also need the gui, which is available at:
http://gui.limewire.org/servlets/ProjectSource

Registration on limewire.org has been broken for awhile. We're not too sure what's wrong, and none of us are too keen on playing with the internals of Tigris.. Since registration isn't really required to get the source, it's not that big of a deal. We'll have it fixed someday, hopefully.

I also recommend joining the core & gui developer mailing lists. Instructions for that can be found at:
http://gui.limewire.org/project/www/MailingList.html

limewire.org in general is the website for open-source LimeWire development.

Thanks.

Thank you both very much. I now have the source.

Looking at the mailing lists I notice there is a general discussion one and two development mailing lists. Is there anywhere in particular I should send newbie-ish comments to (I am downloading the source and editing it for my own interest in how it works, but would not consider myself anywhere near good enough to actaully register and return updates to the CVBS repository). For example, I am in fact (I am embarrassed to say) having problems running LimeWire. It compiles fine, but when I try to run the program I get various error messages. Should I post about those here, to the dev mailing lists? Or will I annoy people for wasting their time with newbie questions if i ask the dev mailing list?

Dan

Using the dev mailing list (either core or gui) is perfectly fine, no matter what the question, so long as it is somewhat related to development. We all were newbies once.
