Just want faster downloads...

The Newbie.

Check'n this whole scene out recently.

Found DIVX about three years ago, I love movies and I travel alot...wasn't totally impressed at first. Lately I have gained an interest and an appreciation for the P2P world. So I download a freeware here and a freeware there. Takes forever on T1 to get anything so I pay for the "Pro versions" (no issues...happy to pay my share) and I still see hands down no difference in them. So I look for more P2P players and try them...no difference.

For a 700MB file it takes at least 3 days...no sh*t. Is this typical? I deal with Tarabytes on a daily basis with High Definition NLE, so 700MB is nothing. You are asking yourselves...why would someone in the High Definition Video world be interested in some shagged up camcorder job of a new release....it's fun and interesting I guess. Still....why can't the download be quicker? Not enough players in the game? Too many on & offers in the suburbs? Or is there a P2P out there that is better than all the others?

I am usually at a hotel with a T1 line or at work with a T1 line...neither place should know what I am up to anyways, but I am thinking there is an issue with a firewall or something. I think I have done all of the "quick fixes" that Mr. LeeWare has offered
but as he loves to point out, I might not have been paying close enough attention.

Peace out.

Yowser .. if you're handling terabytes per day (2TB/day = ~24MB/second) you'd need in excess of 1500 people with humble user broadband sharing the same file out to saturate your pipe. Chances are that unless you're downloading extremely popular content you'll get perhaps a quarter share of two or three broadband pipes.

Frustrating yes, but we can all be thankful that once you've downloaded a file the reverse holds .. you'll be serving the file up at 'full speed' to a thousand regular broadband users at once. Hang in there, the rest of te Internet will catch up with you in ten years time. Until then, keep on sharing ;)

You want speed

If you want speed you have to download from someone that has the capacity to serve the data as fast as you can pull it. It's the same situation on ANY p2p network. Shareaza has the same problem with slow downloads. Any file sharing network that claims it's faster than any other one is making that claim on what basis?

Because they are all dependent on the users for creating the networks foundation.

I have the capacity to serve a max of 120 users simultaneously. When I reach that point the throughput per users is around
12-16Kbps. I usually serve about 12-20 users simultaneously 77.2Kbps per user.

Therefore the amount of bandwidth allocated is proportional to the number of users being served.

It has nothing to do with LimeWire

faster downloads

I have been having great success lately...at times 105KB/s to 145KB/s! For the most part I still have an average of 10KB/s to 23KB/s but that's still acceptable for me. It is still very unfortunate that so many users drop so often, but, what can ya do. I also found that by configuring my RWIN to match my current connection settings, I had much better success. Also, if I hung in there during the"waiting in line" most users kill the download "patience is a virtue!" and walla....65KB/s and up!

I have been busy in the past few days trying out all of the availble P2P software and I have to admit that I enjoy Limewire the best for its ease of use and consistent success rate. I guess it all comes down to what cup do you like to drink from...You have to be diligent in your searches and be patient.

Advice for others wanting faster downloads...read the forums! It will come eventually. I've learned more about P2P from forums and chat than any other source.

Granted...we aren't doing HD resolution downloads but...we are not far either. This has been fun & I look forward to more...

Peace
