Search options and file types. Hello everyone! First off I'd just like to say thank-you to everyone who helps out on this forum. Every time I've posted here I have received very helpful (and not to mention quick) responses. I was wondering what type of file extension does limewire look for if you click on the "programs" or "documents" radio button on the search menu. Does anybody know? More importantly, I was wondering if there was a way to tell limewire to report results that are NOT an image, audio, or video file. Often I search for files with "smc", "sfc", "fig", "gba", "rar", and "zip" file extensions. In the past I've use the filter option to block jpg, avi, mp3, etc files, but it's a pain to have to filter them out when I don't want media files, then un-filter them when I want those types of files. I was wondering if limewire already had this functionality. Thanks, Jonathan P.S. If this message doesn't make any sense to you - that’s ok - It doesn't make any sense to me either...... |

LOL--nicely done! All searches in gnutella as far as I know, are ANDS, though Acquisition for OSX used to be able to filter the results display. I can't help on the code behind the 'document type' searches, but including the extensions as part of the 'all types' searches seems to work best, since the more specific the search the better it works. Thanks for your reply. Do you know where I can find out the file types search for if you use the "Docs" or "Program" search options? Using the file extension in the search was a good tip. Thanks Jonathan |

Hi Jonathan. Someone who can read the source code, like Sam Berlin and others, could tell you. There's a thread in the Future Requests forum about Tip of the Day. I think such a list would be a useful tip of the day--a post there would be noticed. In the meantime, all the current file types are listed in the Options->Sharing. I'd guess the file type searches would be a sub set of those extensions, but knowing which ones would be a matter of trial and error. Here's the list I can see, but I know some .zip or .sit files could be documents or programs--others are more obvious. asx;html;htm;xml;txt;pdf;ps;rtf;doc;tex;mp3;mp4;wa v;wax;au;aif;aiff;ra;ram;wma;wm;wmv;mp2v;mlv;mpa;m pv2;mid;midi;rmi;aifc;snd;mpg;mpeg;asf;qt;mov;avi; mpe;swf;dcr;gif;jpg;jpeg;jpe;png;tif;tiff;exe;zip; gz;gzip;hqx;tar;tgz;z;rmj;lqt;rar;ace;sit;smi;img; ogg;rm;bin;dmg;jve;nsv;med;mod;7z;iso;lwtp;pmf;m4a ;idx;bz2;sea;pf;arc;arj;bz;tbz;mime;taz;ua;toast;l it;rpm;sxw |
