These volunteers keep the board organized and moving. Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity) Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures. 3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum. 4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks. 5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. 15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community. |

Why is music p2p sharing illegal? Someone, please tell me why this is illegal? I mean, other than because major corporations run the music industry and were making fortunes from it, then suddenly people could share music and they took a big hit. So they're trying to gain back control of the CD sale market abusing a wrong approach? (TECHNOLOGY CHANGES BOZOS) They're just too rich, and too stupid, and too corrupt to care. If they want to make money, why don't they find ways to deliver mp3s more efficiently and with better quality than an OPEN SOURCE p2p network infested with all kinds of viruses? You know, when performing a service for a fee, shouldn't that service be something EASIER than what the general public can conceive themselves? ARE THEY DUMB OR JUST PLAIN STUPID? Where do I go if I want to buy/get *ANY* song in the world? There isn't even a ****** place better than limewire on the internet. So even if I *HAD* a billion trillion gazillion dollars to spend on overpriced plastic cases, IT WOULD BE IMPRACTICAL. I bet Bill Gates uses p2p. (j/k) Would sharing music with a friend over MSN be illegal in the constraints of the law? What if you start singing some lyrics, and they say "Hey, what are you singing?" and you say, "Oh this song, from so and so.", then point them in the direction of a website where they can reveal their credit card to the internet and ORDER one of these CDS (which are totally useless to me. I hate cds, too few songs, too much plastic) through the mail. SO they have to wait a week to get it, then they finally do, and by then they don't really care what the lyrics are. And what about sites like Xanga.com, and users there that have mp3s up? They're just trying to add to the ambience of their website. THEY ARE NOT MAKING A PROFIT. But 'HACKERS' (lol), could read through the code and download the mp3 directly. Oops, They're publically sharing a song! They're thieves! GUARDS! CUT OFF THEIR HANDS! Let's get serious here. Don't we have better things to do with our time? The honorable public, above all else, needs to decide how their country is run. That is, in essence, what a democracy is. Do we want another prohibition? Do we want wars? If you restrict the people, they only rise up against each other, and then nothing is made except destruction. <<Someone, please tell me why this is illegal?>> It's illegal for the same reason that sneaking into your local theater is illegal. You're stealing a service that people are providing for a fee. Sure record companies charge too much and stiff the artists too often, but claiming to be righting that wrong is an excuse, not a reason. How would you feel if your total income depended on music sales, and you found that everyone was downloading pirated copies of music you sweated over for months, to get just right? And don't bitch that there's no way to get the music you want at a reasonable cost, because Apple sells it at about a buck a song download. My kids are in a band, and they've spent ten years working their way to the point where they are about to be signed. That's ten years of their life devoted to honing their skills, while waiting tables and eating a LOT of Hamburger Helper. It's called paying your dues, and they did it gladly, because of a love of the music and the hope that it might someday pay off. How do you think they will feel when someone like you tells them they get paid too much so you're going to steal the music, and then give it away to anyone who will take it? Will you then complain that people just don't bother making good music anymore? Plain and simple. You, I, and the rest of the people downloading movies and music are both unethical and immoral. I admit it, though, and don't pretend I'm fighting for a cause when I steal. To my eternal shame I'm not only a thief, I'm a petty thief. End of rant. I feel much better now. |

Your writing ability certainly makes up for the odd dash of petty larceny !
