native compile with gcj? Hi, just wondering if it was at all possible to do a native compile of LimeWire with gcj or the like, instead of compiling to java bytecode. I ask because, although I have LimeWire installed and it works great, it's about 3 times slower than any other software I normally run, especially on startup, and it takes a lot of memory. Also I don't really like having to use Sun's jvm, because it's closed-source (yes, I really am that much of a free-software fanatic - see http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/java-trap.html ). A native compile with gcj would solve both these problems, but I'm afraid it might not have all the necessary libraries. Has anyone had any success with this? BTW, I use Fedora Core 1 |
