Burning DVDs from Limewire Pro Good morning to all in Gnutella Land. Finally, after many months of my quest I am downloading movies. Thank you to Limewire Pro. They are not DL very fast, so I think I am still missing a trick or two. However my burning question for the day is: How do I burn the movies I have DLed to Disc so that my main CD player, hooked upto my TV will play them? I queried the manufacturer and they told me they must be in DVD format. I am running a Toshiba P4, 3.0 Gig, Windows XP for Media Center, huge HD, DSL connection. Thanks for the help. |

DVDs and speed of downloads Peerless, I hope you get this and asnwer it. Seems we got off on the wrong foot a couple of months ago. My apologies. I realize I am probably in the wrong place again, and you may or may not move this post. Oh well. What can I say. I gave up on LW Pro for quite a while. The couple of conversion and dvd burning programs make great dvds for my computer, too bad they will not play on a dvd player that is supposed to play dvd-r, dvd-rw, cd-r, mp3, etc. Which is what mine is uspposed to do. I called Funai and they said it iwll not. Customer service, however, sent me a email saying it will. Who is right and if it can be done, then how? Please in layman's terms. Download speeds. I read in the forums where folks are upset because it takes them 30-60 mins, with a dsl connection, to DL a 700 mb file. My dsl runs at T1 speed, 150, and it takes me days to dl 700 mb. I am sharing. What ist he deal? PIV 3.0 XP machine. I hope you will help me. That video help.com site, well, I just don't know what I am lookig for. I'm not buying a program until I know which one is right. I want to be to convert to dvd-r so my player will play the file on my TV. the simpler the better. well, thanks for listening. If you don't answer, I understand. This is my night to blow off steam. Cheers to all. |

The Burning Question Thanks for answering. I suppose I am hard headed and keep trying to use the Drag n Drop program that came with my pc. I don't know if Nero automatically converts and then burns, but I will find out. Something is limiting my transfer speeds. When I call the ISP about it they tell me everything is great with my conneciton and nothing on their end is limiting it. So, it must be limewire. I did OK when I was using Bearshare and WinMx. I've heard so much good about LW Pro that I wanted to give it a try. I suppose I will just keep trying. Where do I look for limiting factors as far as LW goes? Paris, what a beautiful city, I've been there many, many times. |

LW's options would gbe a good place to start. What have you set as the maximum number of simultaneous dlds (under Downloads) and Upload Bandwidth (under Uploads->Basic)? Also check how many upload slots you have.

I'm not even sure what a SVCD is... I know that S stands for Sooper, but what does it do? Fly (lame joke huh?)?

Basically? A DVD on CD... I figure it either has a lowered image quality or no menus because how the hell do you squish all that info into 750Megs at best?

The sizes you were referring to are: VCD VideoCD (1152kbps, mp2, 352x280) SVCD SuperVCD (2.5mbps, mp2, 480x480) CVD CVD (2.5mbps, mp2, 352x280) DVD DVD ( 3mbps-8mbps, ac3/dts/mp2/pcm, 720x576PAL/720x486NTSC) In some ways vcd format reminds me of web format, although there is a diff. But on TVs we don't quite notice the diff quite so much due to the way Standard TVs load the data. (Web quality looks crook however~!!!) Of course HD video hasn't reached the dvd market as of yet as far as I know (let's ignore the cheaper/lesser res 16:9 versions at the moment.) Perhaps if/after the 'Blue light' spectrum dvd (compared to the red) format comes out it might be a better thing for the various HD formats. Commercial dvd's started out at about 4mbps. Are we getting cheated here?! The technology is here for HQ dvd & formats of HD viewing, but we 'MUST' wait for the marketers to finish their staged out practice of 'just a bite at a time' process. eg: After all Mac had a 1 GHZ sitting around when their G4 4-500Hz had just reached the market (it was 1998 when I read an interview with an Apple exec.). It took a few yrs before we saw it! HD cameras for the domestic market have only recently reached the marketplace. Personally I'd wait a while until we see the improved versions instead of the initial rough, low-level, no-luxury versions. After all, that's what marketing is all about. I'm getting off the topic now. Depending upon the softw you're using, some will be able to do a reasonable job w/o losing 'too much' visible quality. But some will not do such a good job! Ansd some do squish them onto one CD. Some softs do relinquish the menus to help reduce size. dvd burners & players are almost dirt cheap now so why not go out & get them instead of compromising upon your visual (& audible) enjoyment ... either for comp. or TV.
