An auto 'more sources' function I was just wondering whether there is an automatic in-built function to find more sources for your downloads in Limewire, and how to activate it if there is.. If not, are there any third party programs which can do that? I used to use one in Kazaa and found it very helpful as I could just leave it downloading, as well as lettin other peeps upload from me. All help would be really appreciated! |

Right-click the search tab to "repeat search". With enough sources, LW can dl all night. You can find the most sources by using the more specific search terms (three words and the file extension works best for me). Automatic requeries are pretty much forbidden on gnutella (they almost killed the network last year), and they are still crippling other networks. Clients (or 3rd party hacks) that use them run into "greedy client" filters which can mean others refuse your connection attempts or requests. It's a very desirable user request, and so developers were *very* reluctant to make the decision to give it up. There may be attempts to find a way to do so in the future without harming networks, but not for now. btw--the topic can still generate lots of emotion, so congrats on avoiding the flames! |

cheers, I'm sorry to bring up such a sensitive topic, thanks for not flaming me! I never realised the severity of the situation.. The only problem is that certain files I want to download only have maybe a few users who are sharing them, so when I leave my computer downloading it often runs out of sources, and then ceases to download. A bit annoying, but not a serious problem, thanks very much for the help - and the toleration! |

btw--I know what you mean about those rare sources. You can probably do a better job than the code, though, at guessing when those sources are online. I've waited weeks for some who usually show on a Friday evening or recently, midweek. Check out http://www.limewire.com/english/content/netsize.shtml to see the daily/weekly fluctuations. cheers--I'll look forward to when the code gets good enough that there are so many users we can leave our machines running 24/7 |
