Red face would like idvd and mac dvd player - please help! :)

hi there everyone.
here's my problem. i recently bought a dvd rw drive... but they gave me a dodgy disc with it and it didn't have any software on it to actually let me use it. as my mac is a bit old and creaky now, it doesn't have idvd on it or a player. so i've been trying to get these things off limewire. no luck though. there's no end of idvd downloads, but they either won't mount as disc images or they just don't work. the same if i try downloading a whole ilife package. i've managed to download dvd studio pro - but i'm no pro, can't really work out how to use it and it won't let me preview my projects as i don't have a dvd player on my mac! argh! so - any clues on how i can make these damn idvd downloads work - am i just missing something? and what's the apple dvd player called so that i can download that? if there's anyone who can help me directly with these programmes that'd be great - i've got broadband so downloads don't take too long. please help - i wanna make a dvd!!
thanks.

If you wanna just play DVDs, then the application for that on Macs is called DVD Player (duh). If you wanna burn DVDs, Toast can do that (they included Toast Lite with my DVD burner and it works juuuust fine).
Now, if you wanna make your own DVDs, like create your own menus and stuff, then the default app for that is indeed called iDVD (I've never used it so I don't know if it's any good). I recommend that you look for another DVD making software (look for software in Google then dld it with LW or something or off the official sites). If you insist on iDVD, look for (k) versions which will most likely contain instructions on how to intall these cracked versions.
Otherwise, just get a new Mac (not a very cheap solution, I know, but I'm just talking here...).
