Could it be that you are trying to play the songs with many windows up? Windows consume RAM, even if 'inactive'. Try closing all windows/apps and playing the songs like that. Also, (even though you say the skipping occurs even outside of LW) see if you got the latest Java.

Default I'll try your suggestions

Lord and Murasame. I'll try your suggestions and see if it helps. I'm going to download that player you suggest, lord. This has to be a minor problem. I hope anyway. Will let you know.
thanks!

Question everything sounds choppy

okay, I have a "sound effect" icon in my system tray. (like I said, just had this pc built). when I click on this icon, it says audio configuration and has a tab HRTF DEMO. I go to this and click the play button and the demo music here sounds the same as the Limewire and Windows Media and Winamp players. Is it my speakers, ya think?? Or something config'd wrong? Should I just call the guy who built this?
All I want to do is save music from Limewire and burn my own CD's for personal use.
thanks again, Robin

I would tell you to do alomst what Lord suggested, meaning try burning an Audio CD, but do it onto a CD-R (audio-only if possible), not RW

Call the guy who built it! If it happens for everything, then there's definitely a problem with the way it's been set-up/configured! (Although demo apps annoy me personally. Because the things they do are not permanent, generally can't save these functions for a particular file or has a limited working time.) You paid for a service but it hasn't been provided to be fully sufficient, get them to fix it (at no xtra cost, why should you pay for something they haven't done properly, which is what they offered [an offered service with certain guaranteed & 'expected' ' outcomes])!

Yes CD-R's are a much prefered option than RW's. It'll certainly give you a broader choice of devices to play it on than RW's. Plus they are read more easily than CD-R's (although I did hear from more than one source that for some strange reason some dvd players play RW's better than R's.) The price some CD-R's are nowadays, it's not a problem if one is used purely for experimental reasons. Perhaps I prefer RW's b/c it doesn't waste a CD-R if it doesnt work (let's not forget waste into the environm't.)

You still havent told us the answers to some of our questions such as what your intended output of the music is (audio CD/mp3 CD/portable mp3 player?) Keep in mind that unless you have a portable mp3 player to use for the mp3's, converting the tunes to Audio CD status will 'not' improve their quality, but 'will' allow you to play them in almost any CD player for home, car or portable player. (however mp3 disks can hold 7 to 8 times as many tunes, perhaps more depending upon the conversion quality.)

Try the other mp3 players you've just got a hold of. If the same thing happens then get back to the party that set your comp. up & tell them it's not up to scratch! I'd be interested to hear how things go.

If it's the car where you want to play them, then it seems a full-audio CD is what you require (unless you have an iPod with xtras to connect to your car audio). Then it's a maximum 74-80 min CD you will have. Yes Memorex are fine, (I haven't tried them myself but I've heard they're quite OK.) Try one out & see how it goes. Yes perhaps, you might need to sacrifice one or so to see if it does work ok!. If it does, then it reinforces my point about your comp. configuration having some type of a problem! Put together the songs you would like to put together, so if it does work, you don't waste a disk!

700 MB disks will hold roughly 79 min 54 sec of music max'm. 650 MB Disks hold about 74 min 14 secs appox. That'll give you a reasonable guide as to how you can fit & arrange your tunes as to how it pleases you! Do this first before you burn your 1st one so you don't waste with an experimental one!

Default cd program

What I thought was the cd burner program turns out to be just a player program. It does have a "record" button and I don't know why, but no "burn" button. (I now have 3 player programs on my pc-lol).
I got the box out he gave me and started looking thru the paperwork. My cd burner program is Nero Express. I thought he hadn't loaded it, but he did. There just wasn't a shortcut for it.
So, I'm going to save a bunch of songs from Limewire even though they sound terrible. After I figure out everything and burn a cd...or a few trying to get it right, I'll let you guys know how it sounds and if it worked. This may take me awhile (but you probably already know that--lol).
You are right. My discs say 80 minutes.
thanks for all your help!!!!!

Default This really sucks

Honestly, I'm not stupid and I usually catch on pretty quickly, but...

I'm really needing your expertise now. I burned my first cd. Thought everything was going great too. 16 songs fit on the CD. No error messages and it took less than 20 minutes. I used Nero Express, recorded an audio CD (not mp3 or WMA), added songs from "MY Music" file which I downloaded from Limewire, changed the writing speed to 48x (because that's what's on the box), then clicked "burn". Thought it went perfectly.

I took it out to the car--nothing. I skipped thru the 16 tracks while in the car, but no music. (It did show 16 tracks, so shouldn't the music be there?)

I brought it back in to my pc, knowing it would sound distorted/choppy when I played it, but still, nothing.
Winamp acts like it playing, but no music comes out (It does show 16 tracks also). AvRack doesn't do anything (but shows 16 tracks). Windows Media Player gives the error message "cannot play back the file. format is not suported." When I check the disc drive at my pc from Windows, 16 little "track" icons are there.

Please help. I really thought I was making headway. Any suggestions as to what I did wrong? thanks

Yup, sounds like your PC is at fault here, not you. To make sure, I'd make another CD while reducing the speed (maybe to x32) as Lord suggested.
