![]() I have read alot of the posts in this thread.I want to know if my settings are correct.I use Adelphia high speed.I have up to 4mb connection Upload = 384kbs Download =4000kbs Upload setting is 40kps Download is unlimited Download and upload slots are all set to one I have moved the upload slider up and down with mixed results.Currently I am downloading 1 file at 182kbs,but it will dip to 150kps. Wait a minute!!I just checked in at 282kps.I know this depends on the users I connect with,but this was accomplished by lowering my upload speed to from 40kps to 33 kps. OMG it went from 282 up to 342 on this current file.I think setting your download to 1 is the best.You can make adjustments from that point. Final max speed on a 700mb file = 362kps + or - 10kbs in dips. I just tried another file.I am downloading at 157kps.I am using the same settings.I guess it's the luck of the draw......... ![]() The gnutella network is very dynamic. Hosts are continually logging on and off. So a file you can find this minute might not be there the next. Also the network is being continually flooded with fake files which include the viruses. Quote:
![]() I hope this helps answer you question. Unless your not asking a question, but just making an observation. I'm not quite sure ![]()

The search item may have 4 stars, it may have heaps of hosts (Danger, Will Robinson!!!!) but if it hangs on connecting then needs more sources, counts down, doesn't find them...sounds like fakes to me. And being able to download a file one week successfully, then being unable to download a file the next week is typical of this problem. As time goes by, the network is flooded with more of this crap. The golden rule these days is to stay away from the files with lots & lots of hosts. The links that 6_pac left have good info & tips to help. |

![]() My download speed is ok for the most part, but my upload speed is really bad. Like 1 - 5 KB/s and they NEVER finish to 100% complete, it always says "Transfer Interupted". I did a download speed test and my upload rate is 465 kbps (58.1 KB/s). So I set my upload speed in LimeWire to unlimited and put slots to 4 and people connecting to 4. What gives? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I guess what I didn't get across was that prior to broaching this here I opted to use my eyes and not my mouth as a first reaction to my woes. That said I know why I got cookie cutter responses. Again due to curiosity and guile exceeding my actual knowledge, and then of course self imposed frustration, ahhhh, I digress... What about JAVA issues? Virtual Memory? System Cache? Potential Memory leak within the LW App.? No one ever touches on elements outside of LW. Another thing, ever since I re installed LW (Like 6 times now) it can take the installation but it can't hold on to the installation. Getting "Limewire is having an internal Problem" and then hangs. When I restart the app. I have to go over some all of my pre sets. This sucks. And are there really so few so called "ULTRAPEERS" Out there? that I can't maintain 5 or 4 or even 3???!!! |

![]() Hi guys! I ran a test on my internet speed and it's 333 kilobits per second. However, at most LimeWire downloads at 30 KB/s. I think I've done everything in this post but nothing seems to have happened. I'm running XP - can anyone help? |
| ||||
![]() heebie, LimeWire shows speeds in kilobytes, not kilobits. 8 bits = 1 byte, so 333 kilobits(Kbs) = 41.6 kilobytes(KB/s). Some of your speed is used for overhead(sending bits of information needed to recieve the file). So the speed of 30 KB/s is pretty close to what you should be getting. For more info, just google "bits and bytes". Edit: A couple thing you can do to help improve your speeds a little. In LW go to Tools>Options>Speed, and disable ultrapeer capabilities, then go to Tools>Options>Uploads>Basic, and tick beside auto clear completed uploads, and run LW minimized in the system tray. These settings may improve your speeds a little. Be sure to click apply after making changes.
