Poor at math Murasame, I have read the posts for this thread dealing with the calculations for upld/dnld speeds 5 times, you'd think I would have figured it out by now. I must be a lot worse at math than what I thought (been too long out of the class room I guess ) . I agree that your beginning thread is clear, but I've never understood the Kb/kb/KB transitions. Here's what I've done: 1 ) I've tested my upld/dnld speeds and have come to these results: 535 kilobits/723 kilobits respectively. 2) I divide these numbers by 8 and I come up with 67Kb/s and 90Kb/s respectively. It just doesn't seem correct (I assume I have goofed up somewhere). 3) I have tried the link you supplied for calculating your speeds and still get results that are.......overwhelming I apologize for beating a dead horse but as I say I don't think my synapses are connecting to your plane of thinking. I hope you can help with this, thanks in advance. WR |

Specs on my system Murasame, Basically these are my specs: AMD Athlon K7 motherboard with 550Mhz processor with 255 MB of RAM; running Windows 98SE with LimeWire Pro 4.2.6 and an ADSL connection. According to this test site: http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/default.asp my upld spd: 535/s kilobits and my dnld spd: 723-728 kilobits/s I'm not qute sure what to do with these numbers. It looks like I'm getting nothing close to what most others are getting in terms of the thousand range. Either that or it's being calculated without the thousand, I'm not sure. This is where part of my confusion is coming from. I hope this gives you something to work with. WR |

Wait, you mean that you pay for a 1Mbit connection and you don't understand why the test shows 700kb? If that's the case then read again part of my original post: ADSL and Cable broadband connections are affected by the physical distance from the server. Also, those online speed tests need to be done several times during different times of the day in order to get a more accurate speed estimation.

You mentioned to go to Preferences/Options window, click on Uploads, then Basic. Now drag it down a little more, around -5 or so of your Upload bandwidth. My question is this.. Do I need to adjust anything under Tools|Options|Downloads|Download Bandwidth ? I didn't see this in the message above and wondered if I need to move the bar from the far right. Thanks |

I would suggest you do the same just so that you have enough bandwidth left to browse the net or something if you want to.

I'm really confused about this! All i know is that my upstream downstream speeds are 288/512 kbps What does this mean i should set my speeds at? Curenly i have them set at... Download: 39.38 KB/s Uploads: 32.81 KB/s Is tha right? |
| ||||
Upstream is ok. You can however increase downstream a little (yay!). Pull it up to around 60.
