I followed all the advice here. I am running on a 1.5Mbps DL/256Kbps UL connection. Here are my current settings: Max Downloads: 12 Download Bandwidth: 100% Upload Bandwidth: 26.69KBps Uploads Per Person: 2 Max Upload Slots: 3 I am downloading consistently between 30-50KBps. I'm wondering if this is the best i can hope for, or can i improve my DL speed even more? |

Upload speed with a router Ok, so if, for example, my upload bandwidth is 256, then I should set my upload speed to about 27. What if I have a cable/DSL router with two computers attached, and both computers are running LW? Should I halve that speed? To 13 or 14, since two computers are sharing my upload bandwidth? |

First, if you have two comps, wouldn't it be better if just one ran LW? And second, I think you should put a little less bandwidth for each since each comp because you'll be using twice the normal bandwidth dedicated to Gnutella messages (I'm not too sure since I have never used LW on two computers sharing the same connection)

We have two computers each running LW because there are two of us in this household, and we both like to download "our own type of stuff" from LW. Normally it's not really a problem. I had both computers set up to upload at "maximum 100%" and we both can, and do upload pretty well. We can both download pretty well too, but I wanted to tweak the settings to maximize performance and results. It seems like we can both upload on average at about 20K, so I'm leery about setting it lower than that. I originally came to this thread because I've been having problems with large files starting out fast, slowing down, reaching 99% and refusing to complete, but I think it may be a separate issue. |

Hello there Murasame, I've been looking at you posts about configuring LW. They have been very helpful up to a point (not your fault though, I'm just having a few probs with somethings) Wondered if you could help. #1. maximum simultaneous d/loads:- I set this at 5. Mixing it up with maximum d/loads you can perform. (Any ideas how many I should start with. I know you say to play about, lather rinse as required but even some audio files are messing about at 4 - 6 kB/s, it used to be quicker until I started tweaking stuff....lol) #2. Bits and bytes arggghhh!!! (Really got lost when you and Morgwen started discussing the difference between the 2 and decimal and binaries ) I managed to do my upload speed as per your instructions 256/8 =32-5-27kb/s. But obvioulsly I can't do this with download cos that would end up 59. I'm really sorry but I'm getting to thinking if I can't get one of these things right I'll never get any of them right. Please don't think that I've came straight here and couldn't even be bothered to read any stuff cos I haven't (I saw you said that to musicguy2005 so that proves I've been reading....lol.....) I know I shouldn't set the max simultaneous d/loads straight to 100 but is it ok to start with more that 5?? Thanks very much for all your help, Lindy |

So your dld bandwidth is 512Kbps? Then 59KBps is good. And I think you can start experiencing directly at over 10 simultaneous dlds.

Thanks for the reply, But I can't put my dld bandwith to 59KBps though can I (lol.....I'll answer that no I can't). So if I'm using 27KBps for upload how much for dld. I know you've probably already answered this but I'm really just not getting it, sorry. Regards, Lindy |

If you're talking about the dld bandwidth meter thingy they added in the latest releases, I never really bothered with it (it can't go high enough so I just left it to unlimited)

Hee hee nice one Murasame, That's exactly what I meant. My B/F knows even less about this stuff than I do but he said put it on 100%, but I wasn't sure I should. I have been on this computer for about 11hrs out of the last 23hrs. I realise now that it's unfair just to come straight on here and expect ppl just to answer your questions without having looked at other threads first. I actually think I've learned more using the search because I've read lots of different things. If I had just asked a question and got the answer I wouldn't have learned so much. Many thanks, Lindy x |
