The reason I ask is because I assume it is the reason why downloading a 348mb file was still at 40% after 10 hours? Or is that normal? |
| |||
well it depends i think if u download something from a user that has t3 or higher speed ur movie would d/l at top speeds becau users with speeds of T3 have bigger upload speed so u can upload of them quicker im think with T1 one u get speeds of 1MBps or higher and with T3 up 20 000 Mbps and not 100% sure but |

It's just that I can't really see how useful it's going to be to me. I paid for LW Pro because I thought it would be worth it but I can't really be doing with waiting 24 hours to download forty minutes of a video, plus it slowed everything down to the extent I thought I was under water. Am I missing something?? Is file sharing only for those with "T1 or higher"? |

Is there any reason you have so many versions of java on your machine. If not uninstall all of them then follow the instructions below. You will need to install Java and LimeWire manually First go to the first link.You can find Links to java in there Download Java to your hard drive by putting a mark in the save to disc box. Save it to my documents or wherever you save downloads from the internet. Do the same with LimeWire the second link will take you there. Now with that done click on start then control panel add/remove programs and see if Java is listed on the list if it is uninstall it. Do the same with LimeWire if the un installers were not loaded you may have to manually delete the files. But in most cases this is not necessary. Now click on the Java installer you saved to your hard drive and follow the instructions after you have completed that do the same with LimeWire. Use the offline Java installer. Please post back and let us know if it worked. If it did not I will give further instructions on manually deleting Java and LimeWire. http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml |

Thank you very much, Grandpa, for trying to help. I carried out all your instructions (successfully) and tried to dowload another file. At first, I was really excited because it went at a cracking pace - over 70 KB/s - but very soon it slipped back down again and is now varying between 3 and 7....... And once again, all other applications have slowed down to a snail's pace. Can you tell me, please, based on the information I gave about the speedtest and other stuff: should I be expecting anything else? Or is this as fast as I can expect? Also, regarding the slowing down of other applications, is this connected in any way to the options for setting Download Bandwith? It is set at the default of 100% - is that why everything else is so slow? But if I reduce it, will that not just decrease the speed of downloads even more? Thanks again for your advice. |

Try the .limewire fix in the link below. You should be DL at about 50KB/s or faster depending on conditions. Set download bandwith to 45KB/s and Upload to around 20KB/s if you are going to be on the net while downloading. If the above fix doesn't help you may need a different Java. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=36420 |

I will try the fix you suggest, but in the meantime.... I couldn't set the bandwith to 45KB/s because it doesn't go that high and then I realised it's because connection speed is set at 'Cable/DSL', which I presumed was the right one for me. Which goes back to my very first question: what do T1 and T3 mean? I've tried to find this out for myself but no luck (at least not in language I can understand). I just checked the link but it says "WARNING: The 3. "Repair" process will NOT work on versions of LW 4.4 or later due to different type of installer!" So presumably it won't work on 4.10 PRO? Or am I being incredibly dense...? Last edited by Baba Yaga; January 4th, 2006 at 05:32 PM. |
