limewire & suprnova.org Hi all, Bit of a newbie to the whole P2P thing, but heard that it is possible to download apps, movies etc from suprnova.org using P2P software like limewire and shareaza (windoze). Trouble is I don't know the process of downloading the files. A friend of a friend does so using shareaza, but i have no idea how to achieve this using limewire or whether at all it is possible???? Could someone please give me some pointers on this matter, and perhaps point me in the direction of some useful info on the whole ??torrent?? thing. Cheers Danski |

it is not yet possible with the official LimeWire release, you may try a BT enabled test version http://www.magnetdb.com/viewtopic.php?t=37 ( make sure to read the big red warning) or you may try a regular BitTorrent client like Azureus: http://azureus.sf.net (which has the drawback of not being able to connect to Gnutella and the immeasurable advantage of being stable) |

Limewire BT Torrent Version Thanks for the link Trap_Jaw4. Am in the process of downloading the BT torrent version, right now. Am I right in saying that once it is installed, I can go to a site such as suprnova.org, click on the file I wish to obtain (which will present me with the option to save to disk?), i then open the torrent from within limewire, that enables me to begin recieving the file? Am I on the right lines? Any help, on the (file obtaining) procedure would be much appreciated.... cheers Danski P.S other users, please forgive my ignorance... as I stated before, I am a complete newbie to this. The answers are easy when you know them........@) |

No, you don't open the file from within Limewire. It doesn't have anything to do with torrent files. You have to open it from where you have downloaded it to. Ivan In the dark we make a brighter light

Limewire 4.4 Hi, Trap_Jaw4, Do you know when Limewire 4.4 with (possibly)your Bit Torrent support is likely to be released? And do you know whether or not it is likely to cost anything for owners of Limewire Pro? or will it be classified as a free update?? cheers Danski |

LimeWire 4.4 will probably not be released until november/december 2004. The next release will be LW 4.2 during the next couple of weeks. If your free updates last till the date LW 4.4 is released the update will be free (of course). There will also be LW 4.4 basic which will also have bittorrent suport. |

limewire BT Torrent Support Works yes, you can load the torrent file from within the 4.1.5c build. Am doing so , as I type... Although i am experiencing very low data rates (for a 600Kbps service), around 1/2KB. I know this is not due to this build because I achieve the same rates under the officially released limewire Pro version. Why is this???(answers on a postcard please..). I know the rate at which data is recieved is dependent on many factors such as Network traffic, sources allocated bandwidth/time per connection/total bandwidth etc, & no. of sources, but still I should be achieving higher rates considering my available bandwidth. I have a OSX 10.3.1 Panther firewall running, but surely it should'nt grind things to a halt as much as this??/ Is it perhaps that my Pro & BT Torrent Supported versions of Limewire are badly configured? Any advice on optimally configuring these builds would be much appreciated (i.e upload/download configs).... I have tried tweaking limewire pro before to boost performance (from information gathered from the limewire forums) but have as yet noticed no improvement! Is there no definitive guide for optimising Limewire?? Cheers danski |
