Unhappy me no share

Lately, I have grown uncomfortable sharing music files. So.... I opted out. How do I direct downloads into a specific file that I have designated? All downloaded files are being directed to a limewire program file which I have to cut and paste into my designated music file in my documents since I don't want to share. Kazaa never punished me in this way. If I chose not to share, my music downloads were always present within "my library". By not sharing, I have to go "fetch and move my downloads" from limewire program file. How can I get around this annoyance? Any suggestions?

Simply change your dwnld location in LW's prefs. You can only have 1 active dwnld folder! Go to LW's menu Tools-Options & Saving. Now press the Add & locate LW to where u would prefer for LW to dwnld its files in future. Then press Apply & OK.

Lately I see a lot of posts by people beeing afraid to share.
Let me tell tou that when you download, your IP can also be tracked.
You might "feel" safer by not sharing, but it's a false feeling.
Besides, what would happen if no-one shared....?
There would be nothing to download at all.
When I'm online I share about 900 high bitrate MP3's, most of them are complete albums.
I do get a lot of uploads, and that's OK with me as long as I can download myself.
But if I can no longer get what I want I quit.
P2P only works when you share, you get some, you give some.

??????
If there's one network I find frustrating it is the donkey network, all I get is uploads, it never let's me download and if it does, it is at extreme slow speed.

Newsgroups are the most efficient.

If you download music you shouldn´t try the donkey network but for videos and games ther isn´t a better network.

Sometimes the donkey needs a few hours but then he is running... patience is a virtue.

If your settings are good you get what you give... my upload/download ratio is 1:1. Emule for example has a credit system where people who upload much are prefferred for the downloads... and really I don´t expect to download a video in two minutes but I want to have the possibility, ever tried to download a popular video from Gnutella? If, I mean if you find it its a real pain to get a slot... I download every two days a video, and I really never had such success with Gnutella... one very important point for me is that the donkey user have to share, there is no freeloder option and no possiblity to say okay I share some dummy file... all üpeople share what they are downloading at least the time while they are downloading!

Oops, sorry meant to type something with that, but anyway there is a program you can use that blocks the bad guy's IP addresses. Get it at www.methlabs.org. Make sure you update it daily at www.methlabs.org/sync. To update simply unzip the guarding.p2p file to your PeerGuardian folder. Don't use the programs autoupdate feature, it doesn't work.

Thumbs down available to take but not give

Don't you think that's just a little self-serving? Not to mention nervy! Here you are, saying what's yours can be mine but what's mine stays mine, btw, I want your help moving your content to another area so no one can even share what I got from someone else. A very Queenie attitude.

You aren't the only one with concerns. My first post here was about this. I had remembered reading a newspaper article where it was stated that they looked for a large amount of content. I asked if anyone had heard this. What I have done to try to keep under the radar is to keep a smaller selection of content open for sharing, rotating files, removing ones which were common, adding ones which limewire searches returned no results (this is rare - the variety of content here blows winmx away!). I just couldn't, in all good conscience be a hypocrite.

One possible solution might be using a program like Steganos Anonomous Internet ____ (whatever. I forget the rest). You can choose a stable ip address or have it vary according to intervals. It also has a trace eraser which is absolutely ruthless. While getting rid of all histories, temp files, partial search completions, it managed to make toast of my system restore backup points! It can be set to ignore these, but little did I know :0 . I had the trial version, downloaded from zdnet, and were I not so insufficiently funded I would have bought it.

ok I'm going to go into technoidiot mode here: does this mean that if I do this, and update it daily b4 connecting to limewire, that my ip is hidden? I really want to just have all content open & not worry about size of sharable folder drawing attention.
