I do see your point, but, you'd be far better searching for something like "p2p SCAM" first.
I'll tell you how I found this forum: I got an email advertising
_www.americamp3network.com. I did what I.....

Yes, yes, however if read what I wrote, I did not know until I landed in this forum after downloading my "paid for" Limewire from the scam site that p2p was what the technical term for doing this downloading stuff...again, I only searched for "the best site to download music and movies" and like I said before, ended up with scam sites.
I had a dinosaur computer before which had no burning audio or dvd capability. I just bought this one about 3 weeks ago...I knew that stuff could be done but didn't know how to get it done...that's why I did my research, which was obviously wrong...
Now I've been highly educated, so I thank everyone for their support in this forum...nuff said from me on my end...I got scammed point blank, thought I did my research but not well enough, lesson learned, moving on...

Nor does LW itself have any relationship with those people. It's a new enterprise for people to put together attractive sites saying downld all you want & just pay a membership. Then show you to the free downld site. (By the way there's also a clone or few of LW that aren't as good.)

If I were you I would contact the credit company ASAP & cancel the transaction & explain these people were scammers.

This is the official LW download site: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml (& downld.com or another site actually host the files.)

a friend of mine got limewire pro without having to pay for it by downloading it from the free version of limewire...it shouldn't be that easy

Ripped off too (I think)

http://www.mp3downloading.com

This is the website that took £27 ($48) off of me back in June. I have been thinking all this time that I was doing everything by the book and had a lifetime membership to download. What an idiot!

It is past business hours now, but rest assured I am on the phone to my bank first thing tomorrow. As for the rip off website, they have no e-mail contact address and the only phone number available is in St Kitts! It will probably cost me more than the money originally spent to call them. The only other alternative is a live chat option, which I'm thinking will be my best bet.

No way I'm letting this rest. I will fight all the way, not for my moeny, but for the damn principal of it all. I'm so pissed right now I can't even tell you!

Thanks to everyone who has highlighted other cases, and good luck to all those persuing justice. Even if you have only lost a small amount please report these scam artists.

I have just had a telephone call from my credit card company. They say as I gave my card details to mp3downloading.com there is little they can do. I asked what would happen if they resubmitted a further claim some time after the 'two years' subscription and the Credit card company said I would have a claim against them then. One lives and learns, theres no gain without pain. I shall be very wary in future.

I sometimes wonder if the Credit Card companies or the Scam sites are the greediest low lifes. I think if you can show your CC company that you have been the victim of fraud and that you have paid for something you did not get, they should honour their guarantee of protecting customers from fraud. Have a look at the small print and see if you can do this ... just a thought. At least change companies, or at any rate your card number, otherwise you will have to do this all over again in two years time, if they dont start charging you for things before then, that is. Good luck:)

It seems I was taken as well

It would seem that I am another person who was hosed by scammers. I try to be extremely careful about purchasing on the internet and thought I had researched this site properly. So everyone has the information that was sent to me, I am going to include it here but without my email address. Full message headers are included to help as much as possible. I nhope that this also might lead to the demise of the scammer(s) who perpetrated this problem (stronger words are in my mind but I want to keep to the rules)

americamp3network.com scam

Thank you all for the information concerning the Limewire clone sites. I had not even realized I'd been suckered by the people at:

Dang! Double dang. My concern/question is this:

I can accept (bitterly) the cost of my "2 year membership" as the cost of an important lesson- although I am trying to recoup it. What concerns me more is the idea of unknowingly having downloaded something icky (like spyware) when I downloaded Limewire. Is that possible?

Does anyone know anything more about the folks at americamp? Are they just in it for my $46 dollars? Are they trying to get in to my computer? Will they try to charge my account now that they have my information?

Any other "satisfied" americamp customers out there?

Sorry to be ranting. I'm just wondering how deep these scams can go.

Thanks.

Some More Information

Etravelslight

The following info covers most, if not all, scam sites like Americamp3network:

1) They are primarily in it for the easy money they make, remember you said: I had not even realized I'd been suckered. Now imagine the thousands (maybe hundreds of thousands) from around the world that have paid their money and still have no idea they have been suckered. Now multiply that by $46.00, that is a huge sum of money for investing next to nothing.

Is it any wonder that scam sites or on the increase, newbies make it just too easy.

2) Most scammers just give you a link to download a freebie P2P software, like Limewire Basic or Bearshare Lite, but others can and do put viruses and/or spyware into the version of software they let you download. The only way you will know is by running an anti-virus and anti-spyware app.

I would go one further and suggest that you also delete the rubbish you downloaded from the scam site and download the proper software from the official site.

One final thing, other forum members have found that although they are ever increasing numbers of scam sites on the internet they all tend to be owned by a few major, yet unknown, companies, some situated in countries with lack laws.

Uh Oh

Well looks like I fell into her footsteps. I paid Lifetime and Unlimited access for 22.46; then I also upgraded to pro version for 14.95; and I got net spy for 9.88 totaling 47.29. Is this the same scam guys..I got the e-mail confirmation and a phone number for support contacts? Have I been duped? This is all on LimeWire.

agentrip October 9th, 2005 06:18 PM

This is what I got...I don't know if is the same scam.
