sberlin....sorry, but no avail...it does the same thing....another thing, when I restart the computer, I send the error report and Microsoft tells me the problem as being Error Message: STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER (Q293078) ....i hope that helps some. I'll go ahead and attach the file I created so you can see if it's messed up. thanks again |

Oops -- it seems to have created the file with a ".txt" extension. The name needs to be "launch.properties"... To rename it, go back to the place you created it, and then click 'Tools' and 'Folder Options' from the menu at the top. Then click the 'View' tab. There, uncheck the box infront of "Hide extensions for known file types". Then click 'Apply' and 'OK'. After that, right-click on the file again and rename it to "launch.properties" (it should be listed as "launch.properties.txt" before renaming). Then try LimeWire again. Sorry for the confusing directions! Thanks, |

sberlin, once again, my condolences, but it didn't work. I changed those settings just like you said and all went well and then I booted LW and then hit connect and I got the blue screen....I restarted and tried it again and got the same thing....any other ideas? I'm desparate here. LW worked just fine yesterday and I didn't change any settings to my knowledge and then today it just decided to show me the blue screen every time out of nowhere.....so I uninstalled it and re-installed it (even got a newer version) and it's still not working.....thanks for any help |

Oh, it was working fine yesterday? That's relatively good news. Are you positive nothing happened between the time it worked and the time it stopped working? Did Windows do any updates, or was any program installed or updated? I recommend running AdAware and removing anything it reports, as well as going to java.com and making sure Java is updated. Also, just to make sure LimeWire is reading that file, can you delete everything from in it (so it's an empty file, but it should still exist). Starting LimeWire should show, "LimeWire was unable to load. Please download and install LimeWire again." If that doesn't show (and LimeWire works), then it's not managing to read the file. I've put a copy of what the file should be on our server -- you can right-click on the link and choose 'Save Target As' and save it as 'launch.properties' in the directory that LimeWire.exe is in (same place as before). The file is at http://www.limewire.org/temporary_fo...nch.properties . Thanks. Hopefully we can figure out what's causing this and fix it. |

sberlin, ok, I deleted all the stuff inside that file and started limewire and that box came up that said limewire couldn't start...just like you said. As for changes in my compter, I can't recall all that I did between when it worked and when it didn't work. One thing I DO think I did was uninstall the primary and secondary IDE channel drivers because they were stuck on PIO mode only and I had to uninstall them to get them back to DMA mode...other than that, I don't think I did anything major if anything at all....what's next? thanks |
| |||
also....I have Norton and it's updated and it runs a full system scan every morning and this computer is virus free and I run ad-aware almost every day and I did run it earlier today when I was trying to get LW to work so the comp is relatively clean of that crap too...and how do you get updates for java??? I went to the website and I can't find where they have updates....I opened java on my comp and I can't find a link on that either. thanks |

Hmm -- well it's good to know that at least some things have changed. Sorry to go through such a long process to figure out what's wrong -- I know how frustrating it is to try things only to have to restart the computer after they don't work. I've gone through that uninstall-drivers-reinstall-for-DMA thing before, and it was no fun at all. For some reason, things went crazy (most notably, my SoundBlaster card, which forever skipped). What was the reason you wanted the controllers to be set up for DMA? As far as Java goes -- there should be a button on www.java.com that says, "Get It Now". You might want to try uninstalling Java (from Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs) prior to going there also, just to make sure it gives you the most recent version. |

the reason I wanted DMA is because it was on there originally and when I was trying to get DVDXCOPY to work, one of their troubleshooting steps was to dick with those controller drivers and that stuck them in PIO mode only....and PIO mode is the slowest of the modes....after I changed those drivers and they were stuck on PIO mode.....I noticed a HUGE difference in the speed of my comp....it slowed down dramatically...and just today I figured out why and reinstalled those drivers. any other ideas for limewire? thanks |
