Minor Mistake in FAQs for Apple Hi there, I located a minor mistake in the FAQs for Limewire. It says to press the apple button and click the mouse on a search result to bring up the menu for blocking a host, but it is actually the control button and mouse click for OS X. Just thought I would let you know. Also I really appreciate all your hard work creating a great program that has made remarkable improvements over the last year. Better connections, better results, and better number of completed downloads not to mention trojan, adware and spyware free. You are an example for the entire industry of what can be done. Thank you. Q: How do I prevent downloading bogus files that are actually advertisements? A: Some servers on the Gnutella network serve advertisements with false filenames to fake popular search results. If you find yourself downloading search results that end up being advertisements, you can stop receiving search results from that host by doing the following: On Mac, highlight the search result in question by clicking on it. Hold down the apple key and click the mouse. Check "Block Host". On Windows, right click the search result and "Block Host". In the future you will no longer receive results from that location until you remove them from your banned hosts list. |
1. The FAQ needs some updating. It was intended for earlier versions of LW & OS8-9. I recently made a similar remark as well elsewhere & wasn't the 1st. 2. Depending upon the types of files you normally dwnld it's wise to add: .jpg, .exe & .wmv & I've heard recently also .wma to your keyword filters (ie: LW Prefs-Filters & keyword.) It makes a big difference & doesn't waste as much of yur search energy on junk! The problem with blocking those types of hosts is that many have dynamic ips; meaning that each time they log on they have a different ip address. So one of those addresses you my have blocked out might be just a normal user like you or me. They/we may have adopted that address as our new address. |
