4.2.2 (International) Bug ?! Hi ! I downloaded and installed the 4.2.2 - Windows (International) version, and found that the "View -> Change language" function doesn't work at all. All I see is a "Help Translate Limewire" link that brings me to a web page dedicated to developers / translators but obviously not for the average user ! Is there something to do to correct the situation ? TIA ! PS: May I suggest to put a link to the "previous version" on the download page ? This way one could reinstall the 4.0.8 version which had that feature functioning correctly. |

Sometimes in Windows, you need to drag the window down. Drag a corner or something. Your problem does seem to happen in one in every 50,000 users, I don't know why. As far as previous versions go. Try the beta 4.1.10 rather than 4.0.8 where you'll enjoy almost everything 4.2.2 has. See previous versions. Uh it must have taken me a year to write my post lol! But if you can't see anything under the help translate... then it seems it's a window issue. It 'IS' possible to drag it down apparently. If not you could delete it & try re-installing it. Hi Just_Wondering -- This is indeed a bug, and will be fixed for a service release (4.2.3). We're likely going to release it sometime today or tomorrow (Thursday or Friday). In the meantime, I recommend you download the English installer. So long as your computer is capable of displaying international characters & you have a Java Runtime capable of it, you'll have all the languages available. I recommend going to java.com & making sure you have the most recent Java available. |

LOTR, thanks for the link to the previous versions. I downloaded / installed and tried international versions 4.2.2, 4.1.10 and 4.0.8 (in that order - uninstalling the installed one, of course) and can assure you that only 4.0.8 allow me to change language. I'm aware of the window redraw problem you are talking about and it is definitly not the problem here. The "View" menu opens, I can see and click on the "Change language" item and the submenu that opens contains only the "Help Translate Limewire" option. I also made a search as suggested by ursula and found this one where the same problem was reported by AustinForest on Oct 31: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...211#post104211 |

You have 2 choices of Java: 1.4.x http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp or else 1.5 http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp (take the JRE) the latter might be the preferable! |

sberlin, Thanks for your advice.. It works fine for me now ! :-) Frankly, I didn't even knew that the "English installer" version allowed to change the interface language. One must admit that the "English only" label on the download page is a little misleading and confusing ! But then I'm curious: what additional feature does the "International version" have that is missing from the other package ? Only the ability to do the install in foreing languages ? Are there any other differences to explain the extra 10 megs of the package ? Thanks again ! |

Yes, the International vs English labels are very misleading. There is absolutely no difference in the LimeWire that is installed. The difference is really the installer itself -- the international one makes sure that the Java being used by LimeWire supports international characters. The English one uses the most recent JRE (which may not support international characters). We're experimenting with ways to merge the installers and intelligently choose which JRE to use/download. Unfortunately, the International installer uses Java 1.3, which had a bug (or really, a different return value for a method) that caused LimeWire to think it couldn't display any language. That bug is now fixed and will be released in LimeWire 4.2.3. |
