I am having issues with JAVA. When I start Limewire, my display seems to get a bit blurry in all my applications and my Windows Media Player will not play videos..I hear the sound but cannot see the video portion. I experienced this before using Sun JAVA, that is why I uninstalled it from my system, but Limewire requires JAVA to operate properly. Has anybody else expereinced this?

1. Why do you think its a JAVA problem?

2. The videos that don´t play did they play before? Perhaps its only a codec problem.

3. Did you scan your computer with a virus scan?

Please anwser all of my questions.

I had no problems before I installed JAVA..now I do..and I have ran into this issue before..that is why JAVA was not installed on my system.

They play fine as long as I do not have Limewire running, which uses JAVA.

3. Did you scan your computer with a virus scan?

I scan my system regularly with SAV Corporate 8.0 with defs updated every day

Upgrade Java (it's not all capitalized, by the way) by going to java.com.

It does the same thing regardless of which version I use. I have tried the latest and greatest, ver 5.0, with the same results. I did notice, however, with the version that comes with Limewire I did not experience the problem, only after Limewire popped up a dialog box wanting me to upgrade to 1.4.2..strange huh!

Try upgrading DirectX. Also try grabbing http://limewire.org/temporary_forum/launch.properties that file and placing it in the same directory as "LimeWire.exe" -- it will tell Java to not use direct draw, which may be having some problems.

My DX is the current version, 9.0c. Do I place this file as a text file in the same directory as limewire.exe or do I amend/add it to another file that already exists in that directory? I put it in the same directory as limewire.exe as a text file and restarted Limewire but it did not solve the problem. Is there any way to disable Java's use of DirectDraw alltogether using the Java console or by changing a setting in the Java configuration? I ask this because if I use Java in IE as the VM I get the same problem when I go to sites that have Java applets...blurry screen and WMP freaks out big time. Currently I am using Microsoft for my VM and do not have that problem..unless I use Java for my VM.

The plugin for your browser doesn't matter to LimeWire, so you can disable the Sun plugin if you want. The problem may not be direct draw (and if you placed that file alongside LimeWire.exe and still saw the blurriness, then it likely isn't). I'd remove that file (since all it'll do now is slow down LimeWire), and search the web for other people that have blurriness or no video shown when using Java. We haven't ever heard these particular symptoms before, so I'm not sure where to go from here.

One thing I'd do is make sure your video card drivers are up to date by going to the manufacturer's website and updating them.

Thanks for the info sberlin. I am looking around the forums here and doing some searches elsewhere. I am running the current vid drivers for my NVidia based 5600XT card. I do have by browser configured not to use the Java plugin, but with certain apps that have to use Java, there isn't much I can do unless I find a workaround or a solution! I even tried reinstalling DX9.0c and that did not solve the problem. It is about time to re-OS my system as it has been a bit glitchy here lately, so that might solve the problem..I will post after I do that and let you know what the outcome is. Thanks again for the help and info..it has been very useful to me!

Okey dokey I have isolated the problem. It has something to do with my video card and using Direct X and Direct3D Hardware acceleration. I turned those two things off in the Display Properties Advanced Setting tab and I no longer have the problem. I run ExpertTool, which is an overclocking program for use with my specific vid card and sometimes run it a bit overclocked. Could that possible be causing the problems?
