Does paying for limewire make it legal? or is it illegal period?

someone please back up their info with sources because so far i haven't seen any great info from previous posts on the legality issues.

Limewire itself, Free or Pro, is never illegal, it is what you do with it that could be illegal.
And that all depends on in what country you live, so it is not easy to answer your question.
