![]() In monitor tab I get "File not found" messages. Not to strange then the search was for files I had had in the directory but since moved out. But I also get "File not found" for files I never had (or even heard of) but the filesize matches a file I do have (or have had) shared. And not just once but over and over again. I dont understand it but it smells like a hack attempt (or succesful hack for all I know). I regularly scan my hd with virus and spyware scanners and I run a firewall (ZoneAlarm). win98 comments ? |

![]() This is not a hack. LimeWire will report that a file was not found when a freeloader tries to download a file from your computer. Wether or not someone is considered a freeloader is determined by your settings. Go to Tools > Options. On the Advanced tab there is a section called Connection Preferencing. Here, you can say how many files a person needs to be sharing in order to NOT be considered a freeloader. In other words, this is the cutoff minimum. There is also a slider that determines how much grace you wish to bestow upon a freeloader. Even though you may have a 500 file minimum requirement, if the slider is set to "Always", freeloaders will still be able to suck up your upload slots and bandwidth with ease. |

Whats is strange is that the filenames (or rather filename, singular) is one I never heard of, much less ever had in shared directory. Yet the file sizes (plural) matches files I do have, or have had, shared. The filename is "flatulence.mp3" (it least he has a sence of humour). Was hoping someone would say this is a known bug. I blocked the IP and haven't seen it again. Searching google I got a hit for "Limewire flatulence" (verbatim) there it said there is a virus masquerading as an MP3 file 'floating around' in gnutella net. Disturbing. No hits for "flatulence.mp3" and dont ask me how "Limewire flatulence" occured in the same post ... but the terms were not related. |
