Lastest Codecs???

I have been having trouble playing a couple of avi's lately. lots of other ppl still have the movies on their computers so they must work. I've been trying to download all of the codecs i can find so i can watch these movies, but i don't know which ones are old or new. can someone give me a list of the newest codecs or a link to where i can find them.

any help would be appreciated, thanks.

oh ya, by the way i am using the latest windows media player
