is limewire spyware?

Lord of the Rings February 1st, 2005 08:19 AM

No. And ignore the M$ spycheck, it doesn't work properly. But then, what of M$ does work properly - certainly not their OS's. lol :D

What protection softwares are you using?

Can you give us all the details about your computer set up?

theproudlunatic February 1st, 2005 09:12 AM

firstly,im a computer goofball.its shamefull.2ndly,does port and firewall #'s have to be the same?6348 is the # i see as the port and 6346 is the firewall #.lastly,im using so much stuff trying to safeguard my a$$....pc tools spyaware, spy subtractor, avg, some built in stuff......its crazy, after an hour or so ,w/o fail...i get d/c.

Lord of the Rings February 1st, 2005 09:35 AM

I don't use Win XP so I don't have all that xtra stuff. Just be careful of the spychecker that belongs to M$.

The ones I'm aware of that are apparently trustful are: ad-ware , & Spybot - Search & Destroy , & Spy Sweeper

Which anti-virus are you using?

Are you using Windows XP? Did you configure your firewalls to allow Limewire (LW) full access: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml Do you know if you have win XP SP1 or SP2?

theproudlunatic February 1st, 2005 09:55 AM

anti virus i use is AVG.and i do allow limewire as an exception in my firewall section.when i click on tools here on limewire,my port and firewall numbers are different.can that be the cause of my discontent?and let me repeat, you guys and gals are awesome.tyvm for your time.

Lord of the Rings February 1st, 2005 10:28 AM

I don't know! With the new version LW the firewall settings are different. I popped the same question to one of the LW developers but I'm still waiting.

theproudlunatic February 1st, 2005 12:37 PM

fabion February 1st, 2005 10:51 PM

I run WindowsXP MCE sp2 and Norton Internet Security (2004)

My Listen on Port is 6346 In NIS I allow full access for that port.

I also have sp2 firewall disabled.

I don't know about AVG, but you may see how I have mine configured.
