I want to share but I don't want other sharers to browse my shared folders. How do I stop other browsing?

The reason is that it seems to introduce added risk if the riaa etc can see in one-easy-glance that you have 100s if not 1000s of, say, music tracks available for d/l.

No guarantees but not having your Chat option enabled apparently makes it more difficult for anybody to browse you. The 2nd method & even much more effective is to disconnect from the internet. lol :D

ha! yes, it's a difficult balance to strike..risk/generosity..

Disable chat..ok. How about using a proxy server? any ideas - I mean I still want ppl to be able to benefit from my generosity as I do from theirs..

..I wonder if a proxy would still allow me to serve up fare whilst negating browsing from malicious eyes..

Only share the folders you wish to share. If you want to share these files then somebody browsing you shouldn't make any difference. eg: Perhaps you have a song they are after, & they might want to find out if you have more songs by that artist. Browsing is the easy way of doing it.

If you don't want to share your Shared folder where you downld your files, then take that file off the share list. Go to LW's Library window & select that folder. Then go to File>Stop Sharing

ok mod. thanks for your response, but I perhaps didn't explain my concerns accurately. I wouldn't have a problem allowing genuine fellow sharers full browsing access to my shared folders, and I appreciate the usefullness of this as you indicate.

But my concern is that, for instance, my shared folders may be browsed by an RIAA goon. Now assumig I stuffed my shared folders with 100s possibly 1000s of tracks that would make me a target for litigation. Whereas if I negated browsing genuine sharers would still get their specific searches fulfilled and it would make it much more difficult for RIAA goons to see that I was a wortwhile target since they would have to do possibly hundreds of searches to see that I was a big enough target to persue.

does that make sense....? It's based on the rational that if you only share a little you won't get prosecuted but if you share a lot you will. The past and recent cases back this up.

Anyway, I've disable chat and I'm looking into proxy servers...just incase I decide to share a lot.
