Search is too specific?

i was searching for an album, so i typed in the artist name and the album name, and when i clicked search it said that my search was too specific and that i should make my search smaller....what the hell ?

DarkManX4lf February 26th, 2005 10:43 AM

what i mean is, how come i cant search using album and artist name? and even if i put the artist name, album, and song title, it says the same thing.

Searches have a maximum total length.

Try shortening the terms so fewer characters are used, or just use key words.

DarkManX4lf February 26th, 2005 08:16 PM

oh....that really sucks...

Phaedra February 27th, 2005 05:35 AM

I hope we are going to be allowed to be a little more 'specific' in future!

stief February 27th, 2005 05:54 AM

Actually, I hope "not" if it means passing around longer and longer messages ;)

Plus they take too long to type. I'm getting lazier and lazier as I figure out just the minimum letters to type.

Then I use the drop-down choices in the filters so only the results I want show.

Really though, what we need is to have LW read our minds, and pouff! "Beam it over here, Scotty." :p

Well....I have to say I can't get the hang of it. I've just recently downloaded the latest version of Pro and all I seem to get are these "you've been too flippin' specific" dialogue boxes.

Combined with an over abundance of "need more sources" saw me dowloading an alternative application this afternoon. No comparison with d/l speed to L/W, but at least I can find what I need!

Interesting. I've read that the developers search for the tradeoff between results and downloads. Sounds like what you see when you switch networks.

Too many searches, and there's less room for downloads/uploads (transfers).

Too many transfers--"need more sources"

btw Phaedra--see what happens if you use the "Any Type" search, with just two keywords and the extension (that works best for me).

for example: OneWordforArtist<space> OneWordforSong<space>.mp3(or whatever filetype you want).

Phaedra February 27th, 2005 08:43 AM

Lol....yes that usually works for me also. In this case I have artist and title track....BOTH of which are so long that I only have a choice of entering one of the other - which of course produces an abundance of hits that I don't wish either way. Searching using 'audio' is producing the lovely "search etc. etc."

I'm not prepared to reveal my search criteria since my musical credibility would be stuffed forever and I'd become a source of derision :-)

Phaedra February 27th, 2005 08:45 AM

Oh....just read again. Will try that. Thanks

Phaedra February 27th, 2005 08:48 AM

*snarl*...it works, you clever so and so!

Lol....seriously, thanks very much. I'll read more slowly next time and save bandwidth :-)
