No I only use WMP when I have to. That's why I suggsted you keep a backup player just in case WMP has difficulties.

You can try to open it in GSpot & it will tell you what codec needs to play it: http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

Oh as far as the icons go, highlight one of these such files & go to menu File>Properties>Open with/Change & select wmp10 & choose always. That should do the trick with any luck.

Default Your Help

I'm so unsure of what gspot and some of the other help you gave me. I have Win98SE and WMP9. It says the file is mpeg4. I have that K-Lite Full Codec package, but it still doesn't play.......is this just me or what?? at best i get just the audio.

Get GSpot.. it's free and it will tell you what you need to play a certain file.. just open the file in GSpot and it will tell you. Try opening the file in either VLC or DivX player & these programs won't have issue with playing any mpeg4 file unless it's corrupt. VLC has in-built codecs.

Default Idea

How about you and I get together so you can download it and see if it plays for you with the almighty codec options.....so I'm not wasting my time with the bs dialogue.....I just feel like we might be discussing a moot point?

I've never used GSpot myself, only heard about it. But it did what its purpose was which was to tell you which codec to use. If you insist on using WMP then xtra codecs are what you need. Alternatively you can use either of the other players & totally forget all about codecs. lol

Default WMP

I insist on using it cause that's what I'm familiar with and it's what I want to use. Have you ever deviated so badly from the norm that you don't know what the heck is going on? Well, I'm not sure if we can rescue this or not. Want me to set up something so you can check this? Like an IP address straight to you for a direct connect or something?

Not sure if I'm set up to do that. Whichever plug-in GSpot said to use, then use that one. Follow the installation instructions carefully to make sure it's installed corrrectly for WMP9 to access it.

Default Media Players

I have used this GSpot thing you have been talking about. It's high end and very confusing. It has helped me out, but at the same time, not really solved my problem. The K-Lite Codec thing isn't really helping either, no matter how many codecs it has. I think maybe I should just go with another media player for back-up issues.

Default DivX

I got the DivX player and it still only plays Audio. I don't know if it even has video or I'm just wasting my time on this file. Any suggestions?
