Thumbs down Modem !!!NO!!!

People using a modem connection should NOT I repeat NOT be sharing files over 100 mb big and thats being nice coz it makes my limewire download of them more then cable/dsl or higher, now I know i'm complaining alot but what has to be said HAS to be said and that is a big issue in my books.

I could be downloading at 500kb/s and yet it is reduced to 1-5kb/s coz its a MODEM I'm downloading off NOT cable/dsl or higher like I'd prefer!!!

I don't remember where the setting is located, but you can set things so that search results filter out the modem sources.

And when it comes right down to it, when you see a search result come up with a modem source, just don't do it.

I disagree. "Modem" sharers often have some of the best material (since they generally have to be more selective).

Since a really busy T1 or 3 will serve up files just as slowly if too many slots are being used, modem servers can be just as good.

And anyway, a busy T3 can sometimes show as a modem to others, since the "rating" is determined by the verified speed.

nothing wrong with modems ....slow and steady...plus your ip changes evry time you dial in so the chances of getting sued are redused drasticley....(i think and hope) plus lots of the stuff u get IS from modem users if 10 people on modem have the same file you want the combined speed can be close to cable or dsl (once agen im pretty shur thats how it works but im not 100% shur ...correct me if im wrong)

My biggest problem with modem sources is that many of them don’t stay connected all (or most) of the time, like many cable/DSL/T1/T3 sources. And if there isn’t more than one source, I’m disconnected until I can hook up again…which is a crap shoot.

And, speaking of download speeds, there was a big article in my local paper yesterday about Bit Torrent. Looks like some dandy technology at work.
