Unhappy Cannot establish 'UltraPeer' status any more

I stupidly clicked on a "restore defaults" button yesterday, and was surprised to see so many things that I had changed revert! But I had been "UltraPeer" until the re-start following that error ("restore defaults"). I have tried several things, but nothing has been changed to allow me to regain UltraPeer status. I am using LimeWire 4.8.1.1 Pro. The box to disable UltraPeer is un-ticked.

Can someone lead me through the process of re-establishing 'UltraPeer' status, please?

P.S. Yes, I have closed and re-started LimeWire after every attempt to change my connection status away from 'leaf'.

Greetings GooRoo

I had a similar problem yesterday. I deleted the .limewire folder.

When LW started I started having display problems. Similar to many posts here. It would also not connect as a UP. I checked all my settings.

The only setting that had been changed was the iTunes. It reverted back to the default. I disabled (unchecked) the iTunes Share My Music, since I don't presently have iTunes. I clicked apply then okay. I then closed and restarted LW.

When LW restarted not only had my display problem gone away, it also immediately connected as UP. This process took me about 20 minutes. I have been a UP since.

I may have been fortunate this time, as I have closed LW while doing routine maint., and upon restart It has taken several hours to upgrade to UP, which it did automaticaly.

Just thought I would mention this for your info.

Peerless is right about the time business, but your problem sounds like something changed with your ports. Then again, maybe there are enough ultrapeers available that the networking code thinks your machine will work best as a leaf.

However, check the options -> bug reports to see if it still says "Accept incoming =True." Your LW really needs to be able to accept incoming connection attempts to operate as an Ultrapeer.

If it says false, then the incoming port is blocked (router? firewall?).

(btw--you don't need to quit and restart for most of the changes to work: just using disconnect and connect should be enough to reset connections).

I will check into the ports. I doubt the 'enough ultrapeers' is the case, though. There were usually 40 or so 'Peers' when I was an UltraPeer ... now there are 5 stable, and 2 or 3 more in and out.

That suggestion sounds like a winner!

Norton's Personal Firewall ... worht checking to see if "restore defaults" somehow affected the firewall setting.

By far the most valuable tidbit of advice I have received in days! (Sure will speed up the process of trying out new settings!)
