Security Update!!

>Security Update!!
>All LimeWire users of versions prior to 4.8 must upgrade.

I don't get it I've still not found an explaination of what the problem is. I know it was only announced properly this morning...have I just missed the detailed explanation somewhere.

I would like to know risks I have been exposed to using 4.6, if any. Please enlighten me.

I guess we'll all find out tomorrow or today depending on where you live. Yesterday for me lol :D

Can't you spill the beans the LOTR? or alternatively, let the cat out of the bag? - I gather it's not that serious then?

Lord of the Rings March 14th, 2005 07:32 AM

What I meant was they said they'd tell us on Monday. It's Tuesday here & I still don't know! lol :D

Haw-Haw....stop, no more please...<gasp!>
..okokok..I couldn't stand it any longer...I'm now on 4.8..

I have a suspicision though that the security alert was just a rouse to get us all on the same version to improve overall network performance. Awhile back, upgrading to 4.6 was much better for me with the UPnP port forwarding since I'd never got round to fiddling with mydg834 manually...UPnP seemed to utilise my bandwidth much better..less "handshaking" I suppose...
..Tuesday eh?..is it warm or cold there?

Lord of the Rings March 14th, 2005 08:06 AM

Was quite warm but cooling down. I was hot a moment ago ... just a mod thing. I'll get over it. haha :D

(Who said we never chat on the forum lol)

You should update because of this:

[Edited. Please don't link to exploits. Just note that they could exist.]

Thanks DT. Pretty serious vulnerability then. Glad its been fixed.

I can understand not explaining what the security issue was now - untill all users could be made aware. But I think the trumpet should be blowen long and hard now to get all users on 4.8.1
