These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures. 3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum. 4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks. 5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. 15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. Rare Music Videos I live in the US which means that every music video outlet is either owned by MTV or they have enough controlling stock in that they can decide what music videos will be seen on American Television. That means that 99.99% of every music video ever made are blacklisted at the whims of about 4 or 5 television executives, and that includes many hit videos shown in the 80's. I have found that the only way to see some of these videos has been to look for them on P2P's such as LimeWire, but there are still hundreds of videos I have not found by searching and many others I have found but are from hosts that are so busy that I cannot connect or others who are there long enough to get the first 30 seconds of a video before they disconnect and are gone for weeks, months, or never come back. And then there is the problem of searching for an artist whos name is the same as porno videos. If I was to look for 80's teen pop star Tiffany I would get hundreds of results for hardcore porno files. The same with the rock group Vixen. And thene there are the times when I think I'v found a video which turns out to be an ipod ad, or when someone puts an mp3 file on a video file [ why? ]. I know that there must be many other users out there who are interested in sharing music videos, and many others who do have copies of rare videos on VHS who could turn them into computer files. Shouldn't there be an agreed time when these people could all log on at the same time so searching and downloading would be easier, and they could chat or use the forum to request videos that are not on the network from those who may be able to add a file? Or does such an agreed time exist and I do not know about it yet? |

if anyone actually did have any Tiffany or Vixen on video Im sure the evidence was destroyed long ago...or they wouldnt admit to it also.....asking millions of people worldwide to log on to LW at a certain time so YOU can browse their shared folders is rediculous...think of what you are asking.... |

It wouldn't just be me browsing but them browsing me and all of us browsing each other. I am sure that I have something that someone else was looking for. I do have a good VHS library of videos that are no longer available that someone may be interested in as I am sure that someone else may have the videos I am interested in. But if we are never signed in at the same time and date then that would make no difference. |

Music videos do not have the same copyrights as CD's or movies. Because record companies are distributing them as promotional material and are shown for free on television, they can not make the argument that they are losing money when they are traded as files. All they can do is prevent others from using their videos to generate money, such as putting them on an ad supported website or selling them on DVD. As you know, making copies is protected as fair use and the only legal argument against this is if making copies robs the copyright holder of income from the material. They cannot make this argument with music videos that were released as promotional material. If in the future the record companies offer music videos as paid downloads then maybe they would have some legal leg to stand on, but until then all that those trading videos are doing is giving each other the chance to see what MTV has refused to air. |

Except that is what is called in legal terms "Self serving". In other words they can print their own rules on a tape, but as they have no legislative powers then they have no rights to inforce said rules. For instance if I was to rip that tag off my mattress that says "Do not remove under penalty of the law" then the mattress company cannot go to the police and demand my arrest without getting laughed at. If the record companies do not want their material copied then they would need a specific law on the books to back that up, otherwise they made a rule that cannot be legally inforced by anyone. Having said that, these rules only apply to the media outlets who recieved these tapes. While the record companies could punish them for abusing the rule by refusing to send them videos in the future, they have little els to go on. And media outlets, especially MTV, have transfered these videos, if what you mean is dubbing copies. And since this only applies to the media outlets, it does not apply to those who tape these videos at home and who do not see such rules posted. Once again, the only way to stop file sharing of music videos is to prove that it is illegal and the only way to do that is to prove loss of revenue due to unfair competition from the un-paid for downloads. As they are still not selling 99% of their music videos then there is no way they can argue even this. Besides, if they did have a pay service that let people download videos, prefebly ones that do not air on American television or have not in years, no one would even bother looking to download them for free because of the hassle. They would rather get good copies from the sorce, provided they were charging a reasonable price. [ about $.75 per video] This is only the last resort between music fans wh cannot find these things anywhere else. |
