I know what you mean, whenever I have Limewire running it slows everything down, including my mouse! It jerks all over the place! However when I close Limewire everything runs perfectly! I dont have any idea why, I mean I expect a certain amount of speed loss, not a complete stand still almost though! I have run all my virus scans and spyware doctor things but nothing helps! I know I havent offered you a solution but at least you now know it isnt just you with the problem!

For groovyg I'd suggest you make a note of your settings & delete the LW Prefs folder whilst LW is closed. Also downld Java & save it to your computer, & then re-install it, links & instructions here: Fixes for Limewire (do not install Java over the net ... do it from your comp.)

heather101 try this Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue!

After opening LW wait 10 to 20 mins before using. Let it settle down 1st.

Set both uplds & downlds to autoclear.
Close all LW windows you don't need open at that time.
If you're not in front of your comp, then hide LW in the background or task bar.
Reduce uplds to about 70-80% or more.

Also don't use the Resume button on all incomplete files. This will also stress LW & your comp. If you use Resume/Find sources then just apply it to a couple or so at one time.

A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities.
