Sounds like you are looking at the incoming searches part of the monitor pane, not the uploads. No worries. That part just shows all the search terms flowing by/through your computer. If one of the terms matches one of your shared files, it will be recorded as a "hit," or maybe even as an upload. Play around with dragging the two parts of the monitor pane to see what I mean. You have to click the "show incoming searches" checkbox to see those though. |

I don't have the monitor set to show Incoming Searches. I did at one time but haven't in a long time. What I see are many files on my computer that are being downloaded (UPLOADS) and show 100% complete or Actively being downloaded. The terminology is a bit confusing ... when it says "Uploads" on the monitor pane those are files that are being obtained FROM my h/d but that seems backwards. Oh well ... not everything runs the way I think it should. |

Well--those are indeed coming from your computer . .. but they have to be listed in black in your Library in order to be eligible to be uploaded to others. Check your Library to make sure you are only sharing the folders and files you want to share. Also, as you download a file, those partial pieces are also eligible for others, much like the way bittorrent works. It's called Partial File Sharing in Gnutella (PFS), and really helps speed sharing of files. Perhaps those pieces are what might be surprising, since with PFS file names that you haven't completely downloaded are already being shared. If sharing PFS files are bothering you, clean out the incomplete folder. Cheers (from one old guy to another) |

Thanks, Stief. I did see one file "they" were getting that I was downloading. However, there were several that I had never heard of ... music files of a cornet solo. I would definitely know if I had ever gotten or tried to get the solos as that was my main horn. I do clean out my incomplete every time I finish up. I wrote a .bat file and do it from DOS PROMPT. It wipes out all the files that never got started, never completed and the download.dat and download.bak files. They don't even go to the recycle bin. Again, thanks. dd ps: re:"Old Man" - If I make through December (Hey, that would be a good song title, huh?) I'll be 73. If I don't make it I'll still be 73. |

Thanks for the clarification. I can't think of any other way (other than malware) a title would get in your monitor pane's upload list if it isn't nor ever was part of your shares or downloads. That happened with LW 4.8.1, right? Keep us posted if you can find more info on this. 73's -- as shortwavers would say. (from one much younger . . . I'll tell my wife she should stop calling me the old man: you have the better right ) |
