Need help transfering TV shows to computer for sharing...

Hello all,

I'm a relatively new user, and I've seen where people have copies of tv shows available for download. I know that some of these shows aren't available on DVD, so I don't know how they got them to their computer. I'm wondering if there is a way that I can transfer copies of TV shows that I have on VHS or Tivo to my computer in order to share. If not, how are other people doing it? Writable DVD player that copies directly from the TV? I can't think of anything else. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
