I noticed that people have been posting complaints regarding being scammed for a "membership fee" for over a year now!

The same thing happened to us. We thought we were purchasing LimeWire Pro and somehow were directed to another site where we were charged a one year "membership fee." It was only after using LimeWire that I realized we had not purchased anything!

My question to Limewire is...since you know about this, why don't you do something about it?

We are very reluctant to purchase LimeWire Pro at this point since we have already been scammed once.

FYI for those of you who have had a similar experience, our bank did reverse the charges and cancelled our card.

Glad you got your money back, far too many people get scammed, due to not doing any research, and then blame LW because they were not careful.

First, I have nothing to do with the LW organisation other than I have purchased and enjoy using LW Pro.

LW has no legal right to interfere with or police scam sites, plus there are so many of them that no organisation, apart from one with governmental authority, can get to them and put them out of business.

As an internet user that buys stuff from various companies, I always do a bit of research before parting with my credit card details and use some common sense.

However, I believe that novice internet users are blinded by the "too good to be true" offers and think that they can legally download unlimited number of MP3s for a one-off fee. Scam sites couch their lies in terms that make them sound plausible and even legal. But if you use a bit of common sense and realise that if something sounds too good to be true then it probably is then you won't get caught out by them.

You said that you got directed to this scam site, I take it by one of the search engines. Scam sites pay the search engines advertising revenue and to be listed first when any search is conducted, e.g. two scam sites were listed first when I did a google search for "Limewire".

Remember, whenever you use the internet use your common sense also.
