Hi, I have the same problem here. My download speeds are fine, but I can't really *use* the computer when Limewire is maximized. For example, when I type in a search, I have to hit the keys and wait 10-20 seconds for the text to show up. I know it sounds dubious when someone says "I don't have viruses", but I'm a computer programmer and I know how to keep my machine clean. Even if something were to get past me, one of the other programmers in the room or the sysadmin would get on my case. I also have the absolute newest version of Java, and all of my other java apps run fine, including Eclipse which many times larger than Limewire. I'm (amongst other things) a Java programmer, and I've never run into anything Java-related that could cause this, so I'm pretty sure its the LW app causing the problems. I've updated LW, and reinstalled it, and done everything that generally speeds up a program. Oddly enough, this was only a sporadic problem until this week. -Thomas |

SLOW Limewire consuming CPU cycles Latest Limewire 4.8.1 is causing slowdown of all activity on computer. Althougt others may have a virus or trojan issue, this is not the case. I have up-to-date NAV and test and scrub weekly as well as spyware detection and scrubbing. Using XP Windows Task Manager (called with CTRL-ALT-DEL) shows spikes of high CPU usage (sometimes to 100%) with Limewire running, and the Processes Window shows it is Limewire conuming the cycles (shown by sorting according to CPU useage column). Even with limewire "Disconnected" and no uploads or downloads indicated the problem still exists with exactly the same symptoms. The problem manifests itself by slow activation of other windowed programs, mouse cursor freezing periodically, and periodic sections of garbled music if listening to Limewire player. Music is also peridocially garbled if listening to music with Winamp or other players. HOWEVER: If Limewire is COMPLETELY shut down (not just minimized) then the CPU cycles are suddely freed up, the mouse does not freeze, other windows applicaitons activate instantly, and Winamp and other players no longer periodically garble the music. This issue is clearly related exclusively to the fucntion of Limewire running. Ideas? |

Slow Limewire AHHH! Same problem as everyone else here. I have two computers. One is running on an older compaq i have, and the other is on the computer I'm on now. I just recently upgraded the processor, motherboard, and video card on the computer I'm on now and when I try to run Limewire, its soooooooo slow. However, it works fine on the other computer, which is not updated or anything. I got the newest version of java, reinstalled limewire, and it still doesn't work. It used to work on this computer, but I updated the drivers and limewire and now it doesn't. Is everyone with the latest basic limewire having this problem? Or is it just the people in this forum? |
