Viruses, how to avoid... Quote:
Don't download files that- -Are 857.1kb, 875.1kb, 15.5kb or around that, unless they are pictures or documents, stay away form zips etc which are this size -Files rarely ever are named exactly what u search unless u see the file and search the name from what u see, and even this is rare, most files under 2mb that show exactly what u searched, are infected. -THIS IS IMPORTANT- Recently there have been a load of files on Limewire that say (Sponsored Result)...once again...infected stay, away That's all i need to say ok cya! |

Since this thread is about morons,I wanted to mention that I got this computer from a (rich) woman who never once used a firewall (other than windows version,un "up-dated") or any other safeguards. When It got too slow to use anymore she ordered a new one from Dell and threw this one out,monitor,speakers,UPS,keyboard--the works Pent.4,XP (re-installed now!) etc. I did run AVG on it when I 1st got it and it had every worm, virus, trojan etc.that could find room in there to lurk. In short,I'd like to confirm that not all computer users are MENSA elite, or working on new propulsion systems for NASA.- cougar |

Hey JC I guess that, in the main, you are right, not every computer owner is a potential rocket scientist or brain surgeon. But today's computer does not need someone with a high IQ to use it just someone with a minute amount of common sense, and with the ability to use it. If you read through this forum you will find numerous instances where users have had "common sense failure" or like your rich woman friend a "common sense by-pass". Either way, these users think that "thinking" is a crime. UK Bob |

ppl say..."ignorance is bliss"...if you ask me its fools talk. I have never owned or realy used a comp untill last year but as ukbob mentioned...a little common sense goes a long way.And with all the info you need at just a click away, like this forum for example, you dont need to be Albert Einstien to connect to the net as safely as possible ! Thanks again all ! Cristina |

I wanted to add that I bear no ill will towards those that do not "get" how to operate computers safely,as I myself had never touched one when this machine fell in my lap last year.It certainly can be a daunting task to learn computer operation,(especially on one where NOTHING works as it should!). I am a bit of a dunce myself but with effort anybody can ask questions or read about the correct ways to safeguard their computer, and I urge those who are lacking such info to seek it out and apply it! - j.cougar |
