There's a lot of talk at the mo regarding the US Supreme Court ruling on Grokster. The forum I referred to above has recently formed a sub-forum dedicated to p2p filesharing. As you can imagine, forum members views tend to be polarised on this issue. It's emotive. One participant is in routine contact with the music industry and cannot therefore be considered to be impartial. Together with the quote in my first post, he has gone on record to state..."The P2P networks that you like so much will indeed be dismantled...". What shall I deduce from the lack of interest in this thread. Is it complacency or resignation to the fact that the manifestation of the prophecy is inevitable? Do any of the Limewire developers have anything to say on this please?

Not without consulting their lawyers first .

So far their only comment was that they had none.

I can promise you however, that even if LimeWire was sued out of business, the LimeWire open-source project would continue to update the software. Many (if not most) of the open-source contributors don't live in the U.S. and would certainly not be affected by any decision of the SCOTUS.

So, there is a plan B...

Cheers trap_jaw4. Thanks for the reply. Although this is clearly a general p2p issue, I've got more than a passing interest in Limewire! So that's why I posted here. I'm currently posting on a tech. forum on this topic and it's good for me to keep in touch with the feelings of the p2p community, the software developers, together with the views of the other side.

The music industry in general has been in decline for years now and the advent of the internet and the technology such as P2P, has definitely hit the recording industry in the pocket, because as with most everything else in this world, it's all about the benjamins, baby! They've only recently dropped CD prices (in the US) and the shitload of cash that they made over the years got REAL good to 'em! The record companies are trying to support the mega-artists, while the smaller acts (if they have any!) and indies can't get any love on the airwaves, because all of the FM stations are being devoured by major conglomerates. So, a service like LW is needed because there's a whole lotta music out there that you would never hear any other way and what they don't get is that I WOULD buy the CD of a particular artist, if I could HEAR them. It's all a nasty cycle and yeah, they probably will try to bust up the P2P's, that's only inevitable, but like the phoenix, I expect it to rise from its ashes and I'm ridin' with it to the end.

I like the point of "The Phoenix Rising From The Ashes". The RIAA has been around how many years now?? Might I say without contradiction that I believe they have reached the pinnacle of their reign. The internet, per se, has been going for how long and, might I again say without contradiction, STILL growing like a plague. Consider the RIAA as the host and the Internet as the virus and the RIAA is fighting back without an antivirus. They can go after the symptoms, the users, the ISP's, etc., but they cannot and never will control the entire internet. They must learn to work with the Internet or they will ultimately end up like Studebaker and AMC.

Preach, Deacon, preach!!!! I agree, they need to learn how to adapt, instead of the "balls to the wall" gestapo mentality...let's give 'em the finger together!!! LOL!
