IN my opinoin Avast is the best Anti-virus out there, But AVG is good also, as far as ant-spyware Ad-Aware and Spy-bot and Microsft anti-spyware are the best ones, I've never used peer Guardian, but I hear it works well |

What should you use? u2btrfly I can't advice you on what is the best "free" anti virus software, I use Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus 2005 which is not free. Word of advice, do not go to the Symantec website for integrity checks because it will tell that you are vulnerable if you do not have any Symantec (Nortons) products. Protection Products Ad-Aware and SpyBot are both anti-spyware and anti-adware products, they are not anti-virus products. Although they may sometimes detect viruses that is not their main or primary function. However, I use both products along with MS Anti-Spyware, I have found that all three products have slightly different detection databases and so they will each detect some things that the other may miss, e.g. Ad-Aware is good at finding and deleting spyware cookies, MS Anti-Spyware can detect keyloggers and Spybot will detect other spyware apps. So, it is not a question of using Ad-Aware, Spybot or, in my case, MS Anti-Spyware, use all of them. PeerGuardian is not an anti-virus software and does not protect you in that way. PG protects your PC like a mini firewall but instead of duplicating your firewall, if you have one, it blocks specific IP addresses of companies (foreign and domestic) that enter your PC when you are using LW. Here is a small sample (attached text file) of the crap PG has blocked from entering my PC. Finally, don't get confused between anti-virus, anti-spyware and other protection software, they all do different jobs to keep your PC safe. You see, the internet (and especially the P2P network) is a minefield of dangers, viruses, spyware, hacking, etc. are only part of the problems you may (some say will) come across and you will need protection for each potential danger. Once again, UK Bob to the rescue! I just started using AVG and I'm pretty happy with it. I also have Norton Internet Security 2005 along with Ad-Aware and Spysweeper for the adware/malware and that seems to be doing the trick for me. I do believe (and I think most will agree), it's important to run at least two programs of each (anti-viral and spware/adware), because one will more than likely catch what the other missed. If you're interested in AVG, you can download it here: http://free.grisoft.com/*******.php/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 P.S. UK Bob, your log freaked me out, I'm getting Peer Guardian! |

PeerGuardian Log Dear WP If you thought my sample log was shocking then you will be totally flabbergasted (sorry, couldn’t think of another word meaning “beyond shocked”) when you see your first PG block list log. After that, I can guarantee that you will never ever use LW again without having PeerGuardian activated. PeerGuardian V2 Beta 6 is available from here: http://methlabs.org/projects/peerguardian-2-windows/ UK Bob PS. To get the best out of this product, I suggest you download the manual and read it before installing PG. Downloadable from here: http://methlabs.org/projects/peergua...dian-2-manual/ Last edited by ukbobboy01; July 27th, 2005 at 10:53 AM. |

Getting ready to install it, will definitely read the manual, is it an easy read, or does it read like plans for building a nuclear weapon? Any twerks with XP or the like? I've got Sygate firewall (don't use the XP one, to me, it sucks!) and Norton firewall installed along with what I mentioned above. Any hints or tips will be appreciated! |
